#Didyouknow The #UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs #DEFRA has 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 #𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The Agency aims to reduce reliance on #animaltesting and align with #ethicalstandards in #chemicalassessment. Major recommendations include: 📌Adoption of a technology agnostic definition of #NAMs based on an understanding of chemical modes of action. 📌Setting of criteria for NAMs to be considered within a progressive regulatory framework, beginning with criteria for their use in grouping and prioritisation. 📌Application of a Progressive NAMs Regulatory Framework that utilizes NAMs for a wide range of regulatory applications as the certainty of the findings for #hazardassessment increases. NAMs may already be used to support grouping of #chemicals to prioritise higher-tier testing. 📌Establishment of UK centres of excellence and a UK national reference laboratory for the development and validation of NAMs to ensure the uptake of technological improvements within the government and private sectors. 📌 Incentivisation of chemical registrants under #UKREACH to provide NAMs data indicative of the modes of action of their substances to support the implementation of a “group first” approach to chemical safety assessment. https://lnkd.in/dfM3FtQu #ChemicalsSafety #RiskAssessment #hazardoussubstances #chemicaltesting #riskmanagement

This report just published by the Hazardous Substances Advisory Committee of DEFRA, advocates the adoption of NAMs to support improved chemical assessment under UK REACH. The report proposes a Progressive NAMs Regulatory Framework, including a recommendation that NAMs are 'progressively incorporated into UK chemical regulation to first reduce, then refine and replace animal testing'. This is an important opportunity for the UK to demonstrate leadership in the adoption of innovative methods for chemical safety assessment. https://lnkd.in/eNnwNkfs

A very useful and timely case study.
BIS settles alleged Export Control violations with Indiana University (IU) in connection with exports of modified fruit flies. This settlement resolves the allegations regarding violations related to the export of fruit flies genetically modified to produce a subunit of a controlled toxin. Significantly, BIS warned and noted that “Researchers should take note: even the smallest items, like a genetically modified fruit fly, can implicate chemical and biological weapons controls… At the end of the day, Indiana University’s voluntary self-disclosure and extensive cooperation throughout the investigation resulted in a non-monetary resolution, which demonstrates the value for academia of disclosure and cooperation when violations of our export rules are discovered.” How are you ensuring compliance? What would you do if you had received these exports and had reexported them? 🌱🦠On 21March, I will be talking about regulatory challenges in the biostimulants sector, along with Claudio Mereu and Natalie Konings who will be talking about key regulatory issues affecting the agrochemicals sector, such as the PFAS restriction or the EU sanctions on Russia. Some of the topics I will be covering on biostimulants include: ▪️Current EU/national regulatory framework on biostimulants. ▪️Protection of data on biostimulants. ▪️Borderline cases with plant protection products and the importance of the biostimulant claim. ▪️Current issues with innovative microbial biostimulants that have no place in current biostimulant/fertiliser legislation. We will explore these challenges in depth and discuss possible solutions. Do not miss it!👇 #biostimulants #biofertilisers #biocontrol #planthealth https://lnkd.in/dm-QkMD4

Today, together with my colleague Ana Maria Munteanu, we participated in an essential European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) workshop aimed at fortifying law enforcement's strategies against the pervasive challenge of counterfeit agricultural products. Invaluable insights were gained through collaboration with esteemed agencies such as Europol, EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office, as well as the European Commission and representatives from multiple EU Member States. 🚀 The deep-dive discussions brought to light the convoluted supply chains fueling this illegal trade. Together, we've underscored the pressing need for unified law enforcement methods, championing international public-private partnerships as the way forward. Heartfelt thanks to the experts Mikhail Malkov ARTECHE ARBIZU Blanca Eva Siegener Yann Lardoux Oliver Csiki Anthony Manuguerra for their dedication to developing comprehensive guidelines for investigators. This initiative is set to standardize cross-border enforcement efforts and preserve the agricultural sector's integrity. 🛡 The workshop reinforced my conviction that our collective efforts are vital to halting counterfeit trades that threaten our food systems. At CropLife Europe, our resolve to safeguard our farms and the whole agri-food chains remains unshakable. 🌾 #CropProtection #FoodSovereignty #PesticideSafety #LawEnforcement #PublicPrivatePartnership
🥁 Are you a #LawEnforcement official working on the investigation/detection of counterfeit goods? Save the date! 📍 On 19 March, at 9AM CET, together with EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office colleagues, we will organise a #CEPOLwebinar on #counterfeit and illegal pesticides. More information will follow next week! #EMPACT #FightingCrimeTogether

🥼 Where do the services provided by CloverStrategy fit into the process of introducing new Plant Protection Products in the EU market? Organisations wishing to introduce a new Plant Protection Product in the European Union market must submit a risk assessment dossier that includes the product’s toxicity data for different groups of environmentally relevant organisms. This is where CloverStrategy comes in! These data are obtained by performing toxicity tests in laboratories/test facilities in compliance with the OECD GLP Principles. The GLP Principles are a managerial quality control system for ensuring the quality, integrity, and reliability of non-clinical laboratory studies. 🧪 #cloverstrategy #environment #soil #environmentalrisk
