162,000 people per year are diagnosed with some form of cancer. That’s why this July I will be running 162km in the hope to raise money for various cancer charities. I have started to strategise: How many Km’s per day do I want to run? How many days a week & what rest days do I take? What if I get injured throughout? The reality is, these 162,000 people didn’t get a choice or much of a strategy. NEW CASE STUDY: Updated Donation Forms! Many organizations face the challenge of outdated, unresponsive, or poorly designed donation forms that hinder their fundraising efforts. Montreal Heart Institute saw a remarkable 25.5% increase in average donation size after switching from a single-column to our multi-step donation form. Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego achieved a 56.5% increase in average gift size. An updated design, fully integrated with their new branding, played a crucial role in this improvement, demonstrating the power of a well-designed and branded donation form. Ovarian Cancer Canada saw immediate results, with more than double the number of transactions (a 118% increase). The average gift size increased by 14.5%, and in just over seven months, the new form raised 150% more than the previous form did over nine months. I worked for almost 10 years for the Golf department at a private country club which were some of the best 10 years of my life from 2006-2016. The relationships I formed and the life lessons I’ve learned, have shaped me to who I am today and I’m forever grateful for those experiences. I mentioned this because I’d love to be playing in this tournament tomorrow, but I’m not but I’m hopeful for next year. As a #RareCancer survivor myself, I credit my cure to the therapy that actually eradicated my terminal #Cancer from a single one time #AutologousCellTherapy using my own #TIL or #TumorInfiltratingLymphoyctes. These type of novel #AdvancedCellTherapies which use a patient’s own specific cells to fight back the ones that go rogue and mutate, not only saved my life, but is also the same concept that is changing the future of #RareDisease. I do not work in philanthropy or the #CGT industry specifically but I do follow this space very closely. The world of #CellTherapy is so much more than just the cure for #SolidTumors or #HematologicCancers, but also the answer to autoimmune diseases like #RheumatoidArthritis and #Diabetes as well. The data is out there with studies and clinical trials. Over the past 4 1/2 years as I’ve been navigating survivorship and recovery, finding a sense of community has been more of a challenge than I thought it would be. I’ve never been in this position before so I didn’t know what to expect but I am mission focused. Instead of being disease focused, I have concentrated my efforts on treatment and therapy focused spaces which has led me to connect with the Emily Whitehead Foundation. As a needle in a haystack, it’s tough to find other needles and with so few, sometimes they are hard to find. After the wild ride that was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, half term with two children and a bustling Challenger’s Reception at Future Dreams House, the dust is finally starting to settle leaving space to think about the year ahead. Our team at Future Dreams Breast Cancer Charity have been lucky enough to work with some amazing people this year like Elisa Fosterman – someone with a purpose, a tangible reason to train and break those barriers, as well as a determination that saw her through from sign up all the way to the Finish Line. She and all the other challengers this season have inspired me to aim bigger for next year and build even larger teams of motivated and dedicated people who want to do something positive with their body, honour a friend or simply pay it forward in 2025. Do you want in? We know there are plenty of amazing charities out there you could choose to support and your time is precious, so perhaps knowing more about what your fundraising will go towards could sway you to don your running shoes or hiking boots. We run England’s only dedicated breast cancer support centre and fund vital and innovative research into secondary breast cancer. We are proud to be backing two ground-breaking breast cancer research projects; Professor Charles Swanton’s work studying metastatic triple negative breast cancer at the world-famous Francis Crick Institute and a PhD student at University of Cambridge to understand if AI screening could identify women who are more at risk of developing breast cancer. We are working hard to ensure that no-one faces breast cancer alone or without hope.
