Finding and delivering insight, foresight and innovation for impact | Advisory Board Member, Keynote Speaker, Workshops, Innovation and Change Leadership

⭐️How to be a change maker at this moment ⭐️ Change makers excel at adapting their skills, mindset and leadership capabilities to changing conditions. As we are poised to enter a new environment in January, I am reflecting upon what I have learned through my research, reading, and teaching on the drivers of strategic advocacy, including the work of luminaries in this field Gene Sharp and Everett Rogers.  Here are five especially relevant learnings: 1. Harness the Power of Incremental Wins Break larger goals into actionable, incremental steps, so that the changes sought feel less daunting and allow for adaptation. Smaller wins build belief, establish credibility, and reduce resistance. They set the stage for larger, more sustainable change. 2. Continue to Prioritize Strategic Framing to Build Broad Appeal According to Rogers' principles of diffusion, successful change must resonate with a broad and diverse audience. Push to bridge political divides by finding common ground on values like freedom, fairness, and safety that may lead towards even more universal messages. 3. Engage Early Adopters to Amplify Impact Rogers wrote that early adopters are crucial in diffusing innovations. In our context, continuing to identify and engage respected figures or groups who are open to change can create even greater ripple effects than we have seen already. 4. Adapt Tactics to the Shifting Power Dynamics Gene Sharp’s work emphasizes the need for adaptable tactics, staying nimble, recognizing shifts, and pivoting strategies. This means being prepared to adjust approaches, using creative, varied, and even unexpected methods. 5. Cultivate Resilience and Prepare for Sustained Effort Change efforts almost always face resistance, particularly when entrenched interests feel threatened. Building resilience — both personally and within the community of catalysts — will help sustain momentum through setbacks. Sharp’s work underscores the importance of sustained, disciplined effort, and taking a long-term view to succeed. I will continue to hope for, and use my change maker skills and mindset, to create a better future even in the face of what today feel like enormous obstacles. Which tactics resonate most for you? What others would you recommend? #changemakers #innovation #strategy
