Do you have a no D!£%head policy? Turns out it’s good for business. Yesterday I had the privilege of listening to the Chair of the Welsh Rugby Union Richard Collier-Keywood talk eloquently about the important Welsh cultural asset he is now responsible for and the need for it to serve all stakeholders i.e. benefit society beyond the bottom line. In business it’s known as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) which emerged as a concept in the 1960s. Back then it was seen as an altruistic means of doing more with a business than just making money, but it was assumed it would involve sacrificing profit to achieve it. The growing evidence shows this is not the case. Being environmentally responsible, inclusive and serving of all stakeholders (customers, employees, investors, the environment and wider society) builds a strong brand, customer engagement, profit and also investment opportunities. The All Blacks have an NDH (No D!£%head) policy. They clean their own dressing rooms, carry their own bags and essentially show humility, accountability and a recognition of all the stakeholders in their organisation. For me, corporate social responsibility boils down to common sense, respect and humility. It’s good to see those leading our national game going forward aspire to the same ethos. And at a time of such high attrition in business in general, would it not be best to have a smart business model that ensures that everyone in the eco system is incentivised to see the venture succeed?

Another great Cardiff Business Club event today where we heard from the insightful Richard Collier-Keywood about the past, present and future of the WRU. Thanks as always to Paul Thorburn and rounding off the sporting connections, great to meet Debra Michelle Williams and Graham Thomas !

Pathway one: Career and technical education While a four-year degree is important for many students — especially if their ideal job is among the 64% that do require a college degree—college may not be the best pathway or even a needed pathway for others. Career and technical education (CTE) programs are one non-college pathway to prepare students for the workforce. These programs also engage students in what they’re learning. CTE programs in high school: Show students tangible proof of their skills and what they’re learning and why Give students access to entry- and mid-level certifications that let them enter the workforce right after high school or use to skip college courses. Are more likely to graduate high school.
Marisa Littlefield and Hans Meeder recently attended the 2024 Arkansas CTE Summer Conference. They had the pleasure of chatting with Molly Lindsey, Executive Director of Arkansas ACTE. Great conversations and connections that will help us continue to support and advance CTE in Arkansas. Looking forward to future collaborations! 💫 ✏ #ArkansasCTE #CTESummerConference #CareerAndTechnicalEducation #Networking

It’s my first time attending NARUC, and this session was a standout, "Gaining Headroom on the Grid: Leveraging the Demand Side to Accommodate New Loads Now." It was one of the few focused on how demand-side resources can affordably and cleanly manage capacity amid growing demand. Key takeaway was that load growth is not uniform—it’s dynamic and location-specific. This highlights the need for customized solutions that prioritize the time and location of demand flexibility based on the specific customer type. It’s clear that integrating demand flexibility into our grid systems is essential as we tackle the complexities of new loads and a changing grid. #NARUCAnnual24 #VPPs #DemandFlexibility
👋 We’re heading to Anaheim for #NARUCAnnual24 next week! Emilie Moeckel Bolduc, our Chief Commercial Officer, will be attending, and we are excited to connect with you.

I am humbled and honored to have been nominated by my peers and selected by the committee to receive the Researcher of the Year award! I recently received my 20-years-of-service plaque from the State of North Carolina, prompting me to reflect on my career. I actually fell into this work. After graduating from Bren School of Environmental Science & Management - University of California, Santa Barbara, I thought I'd get a job to develop conservation policies to effect change in our communities. While I don't create policies, I've worked on really great projects that contribute to making communities better places to live. Some of the projects I'm most proud of include: -Developing the Let's Go NC! skills based curriculum for teaching elementary aged children about walking and bicycling (https://lnkd.in/exFgptxK) -The recently completed TCRP Research Report 248: Tactile Wayfinding in Transportation Settings for Travelers Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (https://lnkd.in/epJXAdQ7) -And establishing several programs for NCDOT. These include: --Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant Initiative, which as awarded funds to develop or update over 240 plans across the state thus far, --Safe Routes to School Program, where I served as interim coordinator for the state, --The Pedestrian and Bicycle Infrastructure Network, --The Non-Motorized Volume Data Program, and --The Pedestrian Crossing Guidance and Flow Chart I like to think I've also had a hand in improving safety through research I've been involved with to study rumble strip gaps for bicyclists, variable posted speed limit signs in school zones, separated bike lanes, shared use path crossings, and wayfinding for accessibility. I have seen these projects and research influence the decisions that policymakers have made. I didn't do any of this work alone, so I share this award with the many people I've collaborated with along the way. Every project is a team effort, and I always learn a lot from the contributions and expertise of others. Finally, it has been a rewarding job to be a researcher, even though this isn't what I thought I wanted to be when I grew up. 😉 I am glad I fell into this profession, and I thank Mary Meletiou, APBP's 2011 Award recipient for Lifetime Achievement, for taking a chance on me and mentoring me early in my career.
We are proud to share that PBIC team member Sarah O'Brien was recently named Research Professional of the Year by the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP)! As a senior research associate at UNC Highway Safety Research Center, Sarah was recognized for her significant contributions to innovative research in increasing accessibility in the public realm, pedestrian and bicyclist data, and decision-making tools for facility selection. The award selection committee noted that “her colleagues and peers value her guidance, mentorship, and expertise in navigating research processes.” Sarah also recently celebrated 20 years of experience in nonmotorized planning, education, policy, and design. Congratulations, Sarah, and thank you for your dedication to making our roads safer for all! Read more about APBP 2024 Annual Award Winners: https://lnkd.in/gVmEuxy
