The latest episode of The Voice of Experience is about The Value of Values. When I worked in the corporate world, every time there was a talk about corporate #values I used to roll my eyes. The reason was that the “value statement" was nothing more than a boilerplate. A group of consultants sat with the #board and came up with something that sounded good but meant little. It certainly did not reflect the prevailing values in the #business, and nothing was done to change this. It doesn’t have to be this way. Values can have, well, value that can be measured in financial terms. The story in this podcast demonstrates this. This is #contentmarketing at its best. Props to McKinsey & Company for this great example of using core content and #repurposing. Combining #soundbites from a survey, podcast, interview and article, I was able to glean lessons on #transformation in five minutes with the option to go deeper for 50 minutes - they call it the Five Fifty. Here's one from the podcast that grabbed me: "When you're starting on your next wave of transformation, what you stop doing is probably as important as what you start doing."

I find that Core Values are often very misunderstood and misused in organizations. They should define what’s different about your organization and what’s core to your culture, not be generic (e.g. Quality, Integrity, Customer Service).
