Here’s Reinhard Krickl, CEO of Phagenesis Ltd, quoting his co-founder Conor Mulrooney:  “What's important is not what your device can do, but what it can do for the end user. So it's not about the features and all the cool technology you’re developing. It's really what's going to net the biggest impact in the hands of the user. What is it going to solve for them?” Reinhard is an engineer turned #medtech entrepreneur who thinks transforming patient care through technology is “the most exciting thing you can do.” Under his leadership, Phagenesis is commercializing a neurostimulation system designed to treat dysphagia—difficulty in swallowing—which affects millions of patients globally, especially after stroke or extensive ventilator use. Musings from The MedTech Conference 2024 by AdvaMed The past 4 days have been nothing short of exhilarating! It is deeply inspiring being in a space full of people highly passionate about #MedTech, and equally passionate about improving #PatientOutcomes. — Here are three of my key takeaways: 1. #Innovation must not only exist within the #Product; but also in Business Models, Supply Chain, Clinical Workflows, and every other facet of the solution. One speaker challenged – “How do you wake up and #Innovate yourself every day?” 2. Current #GenAI is not targeted enough, innovators must identify exactly what problem they are trying to solve. This starts from the development teams – there must be an understanding of a targeted approach towards solving a specific problem. Is GenAI medically reasonable and medically required? 3. #SafetyByDesign and #SecureByDesign are key during the developmental phases. The principles of #RiskManagement must be present in the development workflow, and this takes discipline across all levels. Regulatory bodies are unable to regulate developmental activities, but will be strict during registration. — It’s been an immense pleasure meeting with old and new connections, and #Toronto is a breathtaking city!
