This #Insurtech #innovation map of #Israeli insurance technology companies shows just how important communities are to innovation. Many larger countries in the EU and around the world with 60M-80M and some with over 100M citizens do not have even 10th of the innovation Israel delivers in Insurtech, Cyber, Pharma, Cloud and more. It's all about community. From the willingness of insurance companies and brokers to participate in providing feedback and support by the #VCs as well as local mentors, lawyers, accountants, and, most importantly - the tech #talent coming from elite Israeli universities. Israel is a tiny country with only 8 million people, yet there is so much innovation thanks to the eco-system - and great work by Kobi Bendelak and InsurTech Israel.

Venture capital funding in insurance technology (insurtech) is showing signs of stabilisation, projected to hit $4.2 billion by the end of 2024, reflecting levels not seen since 2018. The report, titled “The State of Global Insurtech,” produced by Dealroom.co, Mundi Ventures, and MAPFRE, highlights that while early-stage and late-stage startups remain below their peak funding levels, breakout-stage companies are leading the way to recovery. Is the glass half full or half empty? One can't help but wonder when reading about the biggest funding round in the European InsurTech scene this month. Indeed, Element was reportedly seeking double the amount it ultimately raised. Nevertheless, that's a nice update for a full-stack player, which enjoyed a 150% year on year growth in terms of revenues. Note there was notable diversity in terms of positioning as the second-largest round was secured by a parametric InsurTech, while the third was in the Embedded Insurance space in France. And for sure, these three startups serve as exemplary illustrations of the benefits technology can offer within the insurance industry. Are modern startups going to outrun the well-established players in the reinsurance market? For an industry that tends to side with the tried and tested ways of doing things, reinsurance has been generally open-armed to modern insurtechs and their offerings. Not every company, of course. Many will have long-standing partnerships with tech companies that provide exactly what they need in exactly the way they like it. However, there are new kids on the block now. And a new reinsurer needs a new angle to gain traction against their more established competitors in the market. My theory is that the smaller, often new, reinsurers are making the most of their blank slates and thus taking the opportunity to build a modern, high-tech service from the ground up. That way, they can start with advanced technology, rather than transforming a business that already runs a certain way. They can use this tech boost to scale faster, attract modern talent, adapt more efficiently, so on and so forth.
