Is your workboat as safe as it could be when operating in tough environments? Many operators of tugs, pilot boats, and ferries face challenges when it comes to maintaining safety standards on board. Without real-time data recorders, ensuring compliance, reviewing incidents, and training crews becomes a major challenge. In the event of an accident, you need solid data to improve crew safety and enforce procedures. You might think your safety protocols and crew training are enough, but without continuous data recording, vital details can be missed during an investigation. This not only leaves your crew vulnerable but also complicates insurance claims when things go wrong. Our range of data recorders, including the XMDR with built-in CCTV, provides the critical data you need for safe voyage reviews, crew training, and accident investigations. It’s like having a black box for your boat, ensuring you have everything documented when it matters most. These devices don’t just help enforce safety procedures, they can also assist with insurance claims, saving you time and reducing liability. Plus, they offer compliance without needing the hassle of extensive setups like full VDR systems. With the right data recorder installed, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your vessel’s data is continuously recorded, supporting both safety protocols and insurance claims. Discover more about our market-leading data recorders and how they can improve the safety and compliance of your vessel. Fire ranks as second most common cause of loss for shipping vessels, Allianz Commercial says: "You simply can't risk your crew and just have safety equipment to 'tick the box'. that crew also will be the ones who fight to save the vessel". There is a difference in quality and therefore price. In the industry, cost considerations often loom large for shipyards. However, the response varies among owners, with some opting to prioritise cost-saving measures, while others place greater emphasis on quality. While some may choose to overlook lower-cost 'tick box' items, others opt for comprehensive replacements. At VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S we don't compromise on safety. From the stitching in your fireman's suite, to the material in your life raft. From the Lifeboat service to the Fire suppression service. From the Hydrapen for containers and the Blanket for EVs. We have your safety covered. Our mission is to save lives, if or when the incident happens we will give your crew the best possible chance to save the vessel and most importantly to save themselves and crew members. #marinefire #marinesafety #shippingindustry #lifesafety

June 9-15th is #nationalroadsafetyweek No matter what you do for a living, roadway safety is important for you, your passengers, other drivers, and especially workmen. An average of 122 emergency or roadside workers were killed between 2020-2022. Safe driving courses reduces violations by 70%. Not only does this reduce accident reports and save lives, it also reduces insurance premiums. TopKey Construction doesn’t just stop at safe driving training. All of our vehicles are equipped with real-time monitoring devices that let us ensure our compliance & notify us of retraining opportunities. If you see a roadway hazard that is unattended or just occurred, pull over and report it to local authorities. While you may have been able to detect it, someone else might not. Safety is not just for you, it’s for everyone. #TopKeyConstruction #safety #workplacesafety #roadwaysafety #trafficsafety #pedestriansafety #constructionworkersafety #constructionsitesafety #drivercompliance #safetyhazards #roadwayhazards #safetyforall #constructionsafety #safetyplan #besafe #staysafe

LOAD SECURITY UPDATE... A clip from the original (circa 2004) EPIC industry training course explaining a mixer driver's responsibilities when leaving the site after discharge. "It's important that your vehicle is fit for travel on the public highway." The clip further explains that the drum and chutes should be checked and "washed out" in an allocated area on site. In 2012, industry best practice guidelines emphasised that truck mixers must be cleaned "of residue" after each discharge for safety so as not to deposit concrete or aggregate on the public highway, presenting a potential hazard to pedestrians and other road users. In 2020, more industry best practice guidance for site personnel when expecting concrete delivery and how to prepare, reiterating the same safety advice as above, was published. This time, it references suitable facilities expected at customer sites, such as lined skips, lined pits, or purpose-made treatment units. Over the past twenty years (and again yesterday), load security guidance has changed numerous times. In May 2022, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) load security matrix, which had been used for ten years, was introduced and removed. A more robust policy was introduced that eliminated the need to interpret how the risk of the load carried was categorised. The industry updated its driver handbook in November 2023, making no reference or mention of the most significant updates to load security in over ten years. However, it continues to promote the use of the load security matrix. Remember—the driver and operator are responsible for adhering to the most current guidance, codes of practice, and regulations available, so be careful where you get your information if you want to ensure safety and compliance in the concrete supply chain.
