About 300 million acres of agricultural land in the U.S. are set to change hands in the next two decades. How that land transfers – and to whom it transfers – matters. The goal of the Land Transfer Navigators program, supported in partnership by USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, is to increase the transfer of farm and ranch land to a new generation of producers. Using an innovative approach, it supports both retiring and aspiring producers in meaningful, hands-on ways. Already, the effort is catalyzing practitioners from across the country to support equitable farm and ranch transfers. So... What’s a “Navigator,” you might ask? A Navigator is an organization with skilled professionals who provide direct, tailored support or coaching to farmers, ranchers, and agricultural landowners on land access and transfer or related issues. These professionals play an important, often-overlooked role, and AFT is proud to be partnering with organizations and individuals from across the country. Hear from a few Navigators who shared their thoughts at a recent training event. To learn more about this project visit https://bit.ly/4b3UnII.

Was it mismanagement or a globalist agenda that will see 500,000 acres of land in Idaho subject to a law that stops farmers watering their crops? Idaho farmers say water curtailment order will dry up land, push them out of business.😳 The curtailment impacts about 6,400 junior groundwater rights holders who pump off the aquifer. The amount of farmland that could be affected is about 500,000 acres throughout the state, including four counties in eastern Idaho: Bingham, Bonneville, Jefferson and Clark counties. Unless there is an emergency stay to the curtailment order, Young said the water will be shut off. Meanwhile, the crops are already in the ground. Young has already invested in seed, fertilizer and other inputs and if the water is shut off, Young said that would mean a total loss for this year’s wheat and barley crop and “absorbing several million dollars in losses this year and we don’t recover from that,” Young said in a phone interview. “That would spell the end of our business and that’s true for everybody else frankly who is farming.” Young is among the eastern Idaho and Magic Valley family farmers and other water users who hold the 6,400 groundwater rights that are subject to curtailment. "Build some framework around these agreements and laws so we don't lose all our agriculture in this area. Farmers and independent food supply in general, seem to be under attack. War (e.a. in Ukraine), inexplainable fires, new climate and environment restrictions, new unreasonable taxes, exploding prices on energy and fertilizer, or fatal water cut offs, force farmers out of business and give global financial players the opportunity to buy up vast areas of farming land at dumping prices. And they do. Food production is dropping, and food prices are rocketing. Empty shelves become steadily more common. Just coincidencial or intentional? 🤔

This is the failure of an entire ecosystem. Projects like this, with economic development at its core, require substantial input from all sectors. Finance, administration, technical knowhow, training, mentorship, market development, government support, and at the core of this is a human called a farmer. We discount this human as we don’t realise the depth of capability that is required to call yourself a farmer. Feeding dead fish – Another government farm project implodes https://lnkd.in/dzM8Bx3B

Capital Grants - 'hot off the press,' a new blog today from Defra on the pausing of many capital works grants; "To ensure the funding can be prioritised to help build a sustainable farming sector, we’re simplifying and rationalising grant funding." So reading between the lines the main stand alone capital grants programme for hedging, fencing, walling etc has been pulled and we will be updated in 2025. You can still apply for 🟢 Management Plans: PA1, PA2, PA4, PA5 🟢 Woodland Tree Health Grants 🟢 Higher Tier Capital Grants (these require Natural England advice) On Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier Defra now say; "We’re committed to simplifying the application process for all our environmental land management schemes. To that end, a rolling application window for the CSHT will open in 2025. This change aims to make the process easier and more accessible, helping you benefit from these important environmental schemes. We’re also working to increase the scheme’s capacity to ensure more farmers can apply."
