As summer ends and you begin planning indoor activities for your seniors, here are some reasons why you should definitely engage them in drumming! Accessibility: Drumming is wonderfully simple, making it accessible to almost any senior. Whether tapping out a rhythm on a hand drum or exploring instruments like paddle drums and mallet cuffs, everyone can participate, regardless of physical strength or dexterity. Emotional Outlet: Drumming serves as a powerful outlet for emotional expression, allowing residents to rhythmically release their feelings. This therapeutic avenue offers a unique form of self-expression, fostering emotional well-being in ways other activities may not achieve. Cognitive and Physical Stimulation: Engaging in drumming not only sharpens cognitive skills but also doubles as an enjoyable form of exercise. The rhythmic motions and tactile feedback activate the body, stimulating both mind and muscles simultaneously. All you need is a bucket and some sticks (for which you can just use wooden dowels cut to about 1ft 3in length). Or you can even just tap your hands on your thighs.
