Competitive Leadership In The Era of VUCA Exactly 5 years ago (August 2019), I was given the opportunity to join a group of leaders from various corporate industries. These leaders carried titles such as chairman, board member, CEO, and others. I was invited to participate in an exclusive roundtable with the 7th Prime Minister at the time, who was also the Honorary President of Perdana Leadership Foundation, YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed. We were invited to discuss issues and challenges as leaders in facing all sorts of possibilities. And imagine, 7 months after this experience, the world was hit by the pandemic crisis, and all of us (people of the world), both young and old, have gone through so many different experiences. Today, as I write this status, I realize the many ways I have managed this VUCA world to my advantage (or to the benefit of business if you're an entrepreneur). Perhaps it's worth holding a sharing session if given the opportunity, space, and time. Her expertise in business consulting and strategic leadership has likely provided valuable support to local businesses, helping them navigate challenges and achieve growth. Her ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively in multiple languages also enhances her influence and reach within the community. Overall, her decision to stay in Málaga and continue her work there appears to be a positive one for the local business landscape. I can understand that Kicki Andersson’s impact and contributions to Málaga Province are quite significant. The Forums of CEO Clubs Greece, taking place twice per year, are renowned for tackling #innovative themes and introducing new perspectives while always connecting #theory with #practice. As such, during the 15 years of the Club's operation, the Forums have turned into an anticipated "institution" for the business community, setting the tone for the evolution of aspired leadership. The Founder and President of CEO Clubs Greece, Georgia Kartsanis opened this Forum by introducing the theme and setting the stage for the discussion of leadership on the scale, or exponential leadership, a still unfamiliar concept that refers to a leader's ability to extend his/her influence and effectiveness across large, multi-layered and complex structures or organizations. Such leadership, is vital amidst the radical geopolitical, technological, environmental, and demographic changes and does not depend anymore exclusively on the vision and abilities of each leader. On the contrary, it is inextricably linked with the development of leadership skills across team members;  people have to transcend from an executive role into a co-creative one that promises to unleash potential and shape a better future! Weekly Friday Personal Post: Thanks Trevor S. Mitchell, MBA, FASAE, CAE, CDP for being the latest in my association leader dialogue series on Sidecar. Trevor is wrapping up his time as Executive Director and CEO of American Mensa, and he will soon become the President and CEO of International Association of Venue Managers. He's also Chair of the Texas Society of Association Executives. I was fortunate to learn a ton from him at the ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership NextGen Summit last year and appreciated him taking the time to speak with me further about his journey and his lessons learned on association leadership. Here are some of my key takeaways from our conversation: --Even people who are super successful and seem like they have everything figured out like Trevor had speed bumps along the way. This included him moving to Kansas City for a job only for that organization to close its doors a week later. --Problem plus solution equals membership value. Simple but powerful formula that's important to remember. He also said to remember that associations are in the people business. Agreed, and this is part of why I enjoy working in an association. --The youngest member at American Mensa tends to be about the age of three, and its oldest member is about 106. Not an association leadership thing. Just interesting! --Member surveys, asking your team what they are hearing from members to identify themes, and looking at online discussions are all good ways to understand the problems of your members that the association can seek to solve.
