AI project "GAIn" with TUD participation aims to propel Saxony and Bavaria to an international leadership role in computing technologies Despite all the rapid progress in the field of #ArtificialIntelligence, more and more serious problems with computing, i.e. IT infrastructures and networked systems, have become known worldwide in recent years. Renowned researchers from #TUDresden, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and the Technische Universität München will now tackle this topic together as part of the #GAIn (Next Generation Al Computing) pilot project. The development of innovative #AI hardware and corresponding software concepts is intended to solve problems in the areas of energy consumption, predictability, reliability and legal implementation. The idea is to significantly reduce the energy consumption of AI-based applications and achieve predictability and reliability. Exciting news coming out of University of Bristol as it announces that the UK’s most powerful and sustainable supercomputer, #Isambard-AI, is now up and running! The UK government’s Minister for AI, Viscount Camrose, has said the launch of Isambard AI marks a “groundbreaking moment for UK science, innovation, and technology”. The new high performance infrastructure will enable UK scientists to access eight supercomputers across Europe accelerating automated drug discovery and climate research. “The UK has waited with much anticipation for the arrival of Isambard-AI and this is another important milestone in our mission to lead in HPC, AI and digital infrastructure sectors. As the leader in data centres engineered for AI, and with a strong heritage of supporting groundbreaking supercomputing deployments, we’re delighted to see it is now operational and look forward to seeing it realise its full research potential.” Says Spencer Lamb, our CCO. UK’s most powerful supercomputer is now online at University of Bristol 🤖👀 The UK’S fastest and most powerful supercomputer, located at the University of Bristol, is now officially online, with pioneering technology helping to make the UK a world leader in artificial intelligence. The multimillion Isambard-AI has appeared in the global power rankings for the fastest and is now officially the most sustainable supercomputer in the UK. It is second greenest in the world as it shoots into the top two of the Green500. Scientists will soon be able to use the world-class equipment for research that has not been possible in the UK until now, with organisations such as the UK’s AI Safety Institute expected to be amongst the first to harness its capabilities for AI research from this month. The new Bristol Isambard-AI facility will be used by organisations from across the UK to use the power of AI, which is already propelling emerging technologies such as training large language models (LLMs), healthcare and robotics. The supercomputer will also play an essential role in critical areas such as AI safety, accelerating automated drug discovery and climate research. Exploring Bavaria's cutting-edge computing infrastructure and its role in AI 🔎 🔹 €55 Million Boost for Computing Power With a €55 million investment from the Bavarian State Government, the computational resources at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) and Erlangen National High Performance Computing Center (NHR@FAU) Center are being significantly upgraded. This addition of state-of-the-art GPUs will enhance processing capabilities, enabling more complex AI experiments, and accelerating breakthroughs across various scientific disciplines. 🔹 SuperMUC-NG: Powering AI Excellence Bavaria is home to Germany's second most powerful supercomputer with 26.9 PetaFlop/s, SuperMUC-NG, located in Garching. It is soon to be joined by its younger ‘twin’, SuperMUC-NG2. This infrastructure supports complex AI applications of various Bavarian research instututions, driving innovations across various sectors from healthcare to autonomous driving. 🔹 Expansion of State Data Centers Adding to the existing network of seven state-run data centres across all of Bavaria, a new facility is being constructed in Marktschwaben. This expansion is crucial for supporting the growing computing demands of the public sector. The new centre will provide vital infrastructure for governmental applications, ensuring that Bavaria remains at the forefront of technological application. 🔹 Creating Jobs and Driving Growth Bavaria’s compute infrastructure is a catalyst for both scientific and economic growth. 20,000 people have worked in Bavarian computing centres in 2022, and due to advantageous environmental conditions like the low chance of extreme weather events and good economic outlooks, the sector is expecting continued expansion. 🇨🇭 #Switzerland has officially inaugurated the Alps supercomputer at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) in Lugano, now ranked as the 6th fastest in the world. This state-of-the-art system is set to significantly advance scientific research throughout the country.   When fully expanded, #Alps will reach a peak performance of up to half an exaflop. This immense computing power will enable researchers nationwide to tackle complex challenges, from advanced climate modeling to groundbreaking work at institutions like the PSI Paul Scherrer Institut.   Alps solidifies Switzerland's position at the forefront of science and #technology, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Selecting user groups for multi-user beamforming becomes particularly challenging when user channels are highly correlated, leading to degraded spectral efficiency and unstable inversions of channel matrices, which undermines beamforming performance. Proportional-fair scheduling offers an optimal approach but is computationally prohibitive and NP-hard as the number of users and time-frequency resources increases.
