We’re in the midst of an unprecedented #leadershipcrisis. From the #climatecrisis and conflicts in the #MiddleEast and #israel to countless other humanitarian crises that are shamefully ignored, today’s global issues are symptoms of a profound leadership void. Society feels increasingly toxic, and the future seems less viable for #GenZ. It’s overwhelming—and easy to feel like giving up. But in times like these, the best thing we can do is focus on what’s within our control and hope that our actions inspire others. If you’re privileged enough to hold a leadership role—whether at work, in your community, or even on the sports ground—strive to be the kind of leader you would want to follow. Put the collective above self-interest. Don’t yield to the loudest voices; ensure all voices are heard. Show empathy, but don’t allow others to take advantage. When we see enough examples of this kind of leadership, when we remind ourselves what true #leadership looks like, we will demand it from our leaders on every level, and real change becomes possible.

FREE ONLINE EVENT: Wednesday, October 16, 11:30am-12:30pm ET – Global Compassion Coalition presents “How do we get the leaders we want with Paul Gilbert, Michael West, Peter Waiswa and Isabelle Leboeuf.” Worldwide, democracy and political leadership is at a crossroads. Faced with rises like climate change, inequality, and war, some nations are turning towards autocratic, populist politicians who reach for easy and divisive answers to complex challenges. What we need is something very different. We need leaders who can govern for the whole of humanity, not just their nation or party, who have the courage and wisdom to tackle systemic problems, and the resilience to do so despite the opposition of vested interests. So, how do we cultivate that leadership? How do we sustain it in systems that are corrupting? And how do we work to ensure it's attractive to voters? Join Professor Paul Gilbert OBE of the University of Derby, Michael West, Center for Compassionate Leadership Advisory Board member, professor of psychology at Lancaster University and visiting fellow to The King's Fund, Peter Waiswa, accountant and founder of GCC’s Uganda Compassion Connectors, and clinical psychotherapist Isabelle Leboeuf for this important discussion in celebration of World Values Day! I have been reflecting upon 'Dynamic Stewardship', a term I coined two years ago, in anticipation of the first #Anthropy and how it might be something politicians should embrace, particularly at a time of a general election. In these times it would be a development perhaps, if all politicians chose to look at what they advocate through the concept of 'Dynamic Stewardship.' It (as does Anthropy and being an 'Anthropist') requires a spirit of proactive responsibility towards the future. Leaders should look to not only maintain the unique qualities that define our nation (something itself under threat from various quarters) but also innovate and implement new thinking to enhance these qualities. Fundamental to dynamic stewardship are three overarching principles: Human Kindness, Meaningful Collaboration and Unbound Leadership. Can you imagine rival politicians, who were outwardly kind to each other, sought to collaborate in a meaningful way on solving issues and were inspiring in their advocacy of accepting the need to learn, to connect with others and serve society, rather than simply sell policies to it. I know its pointless, but these principles could lead our nation towards a brighter, more sustainable future - if only more people were prepared to be brave and follow them.
