As I geared up for this year’s LightBox Expo, I realized there aren’t many comprehensive resources to help first-time attendees maximize their experience. Since it’s a newer event, finding in-depth info can be a challenge, often limited to surface-level Reddit discussions. Arrive a couple hours early if you want to catch those popular panels. *Portfolio reviews: Don’t leave it to chance with lotteries or busy booths. Follow artists and studios on social media and reach out on LinkedIn to secure meetings in advance. *Get social: I wish I had jumped into more group activities. Did you know... in late 2023, we launched our Access Hub! Created for and led by our wonderful audiences, the hub was launched to find out what works at TOM when it comes to accessibility and how we can improve our offer and policy in future. By working with our Hub members during the six months since we launched, we have: - Built-in an accessibility widget to our website that improves access across the front pages, with works ongoing to embed this into our ticketing pages - Introduced a new accessibility viewing area in our main auditorium, offering our customers multiple options when joining us for standing-room-only gigs and events - Begun a trial period for booking accessible and wheelchair tickets online, with a view to rolling this out for wider use later in the year We do this not because we need to tick boxes or for funding reasons (we've done this with zero funding) but because it's part of our ethos. We've always prioritised accessibility for our audiences and artists, and we want to ensure that everyone who uses and visits our venue can enjoy what we offer to the fullest extent. On top of this, we have a bronze award from Attitude is Everything and we're working hard to earn our silver award next. So I’ve been looking at other #MusicVenue collections and must say most of them suck 🙄. The UX is poor or looks like a 90s page. Its expensive and they upsell you on “concierge or booking” services. Lot’s of promises made. One of them also dare’s to charge 800 bucks to download an Excell sheet. That’s why I did the #VenueFindr. I know I can completely crush my competition on UX, PRICE and most importantly DATA!!!!! I got + 20.000 Venues worldwide, and so far I have only scraped big cities .
