We are currently navigating a challenging healthcare situation for my mother-in-law. A year ago, I would have spent days feeling stuck, beating myself up for not having all the answers, and believing I had to figure it all out on my own. I recently coached a busy doctor who was feeling overwhelmed by the challenge of managing patient appointments. (She didn't look anything like this AI-generated image but there was a hot beverage involved, and a lot of paper.) We used the Disney model of change, based on an approach used by Walt: first she sat in the 'dreamer' chair and dreamed big - what she'd do if she had all the money in the world; then she moved to a different chair and became the 'critic' - looking for all the problems and weaknesses in her dream. Finally she moved again and became the 'problem solver' - working constructively to take the best of the dream and make it reality. Although she had been trying to solve this particular problem for three years, she walked away from our session with new insights, a different strategy and a 4-point plan. It wasn't a miracle, but it was a new perspective.
