Wow! I predict this will be extremely popular among associates. Will others follow suit? I love that regardless of the track you choose, all are (supposedly) eligible for the same promotion opportunities. I also wonder about the details of moving from one track to another and how much room there is for toggling. Setting production goals with salaries at the outset is not a new concept (it is fairly common in the staffing industry, for example), but it's nice to see Biglaw coming to terms with the various seasons of one's career. #whatsyouropus #biglaw
Steptoe LLP has revamped its associate comp system. The firm will offer three tracks with separate billable hour budgets. Very interesting step. Respects the mental health challenges of the job and also realizes there are brilliant practitioners out there who want to do good work but maybe don’t want to make so many sacrifices to exercise their talents. It will likely take some time for this to really change the culture of how work is distributed and how these decisions are respected over time.
Fascinating. Love the creativity!
Very forward thinking!

3dAlways good to have options but I definitely think it will be a lot easier to go down a track then up one.
