Chief Communications Officer at Access Holdings

When I got word that the German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, was coming to the Access Bank Plc head office, I was incredulous. Presidents don’t make house calls. This one did. I felt immense pride this morning as our head office hosted something extraordinary: a roundtable session with the President of Germany and a delegation of German companies operating in Nigeria. The reason? The German Desk at Access Bank. Like our hugely successful French Desk, the German Desk facilitates trade and investment between Germany and Nigeria. It provides tailored financial services, expert advisory, and support for German businesses in Nigeria and Nigerian businesses partnering with Germany. The President, on his official visit to Nigeria, specifically requested to visit our Head Office. As you know, Presidents don’t usually pop into corporate offices. They stick to state houses and red carpets. But this one came straight to us, eager to see what Access Bank is doing to strengthen bilateral relations and support German businesses in Nigeria. This visit wasn’t just a win for Access Bank—it was a win for Nigeria. Proof that when we take ourselves seriously, the world notices. To have a world leader walk into our building is a powerful reminder of what’s possible. It’s not every day your office becomes the unofficial German embassy. But that’s not the story. As Nigerians, we must build on this momentum: taking pride in what we do, creating growth platforms, and engaging meaningfully with the global community. Big shoutout to the German Desk and every Access family member who helped make today a reality. Oh, and thank you, God, for the fact that, today, my office was cooler than anyone else’s. Let’s keep building bridges. Who knows? Maybe next time we’ll host the whole European Union. Too much? Watch this space. #PresidentialVisit #AccessBank #GlobalConnections #Nigeria #Germany

"When we take ourselves seriously, the world notices". Very apt, very instructional. The German President clearly considers Access Bank a stakeholder worth courting, which is proof that the nature and scale of your activities have not gone unnoticed. For instance, on the Morning Show on Arise TV today, I heard your MD discussing your revolutionary approach to facilitating international trade in local currencies, with the view to having large-scale trade and investment funds domiciled within indigenous banks, and creating an environment where currencies can eventually go head-to-head as far as benchmarking goes, (to mention just a few things he touched on). Although I was blown away by how ambitious each idea was, I could also very clearly see the basis - and necessity - of it. It's visionary and strategic thinking like this, way ahead of the undeniable curve, that snagged you this 'courtesy call'. I'm inclined to believe this is the first of many such visits. Hats off!

That was incredible! A German President in your space? "Es ist eine einmalige Leistung, ein ganzes Land an seinen Firmensitz zu bringen. Access Bank verdient große Anerkennung für die Einführung innovativer Finanzlösungen."

Amaechi Michael Okobi kudos to Access Bank Plc My advice to government policy makers & #CEOs: Imagine a future where global leaders consistently visit Nigeria, accompanied by business delegations eager to invest in transformative sectors like #manufacturing, and #renewableenergy. These opportunities require swift and innovative responses. By #mirroring the Nigeria Economic Hub, every tier of government and sub-nationals can empower businesses and consumers to drive economic growth through seamless in-person interactions, while replicating the initiative in an online environment. The current analogue approach—(even if) receiving daily business declarations—is like taking small steps on a century-long journey, or like crippled legs trying to run—definitely not going far. To truly accelerate economic growth, the government policy makers and CEOs must embrace AI-powered digital tools and collaborative networks. These solutions can fast-track reforms, attract investments, and unlock Nigeria’s full potential. Tinubu’s reforms are a promising start, but they need the speed and precision of modern strategies. It’s time to embrace #AI Powered interconnected networks or data-driven strategy for a prosperous future. Pls DM for details.
