As Paris gears up for the Olympics, the city is set to experience a surge in prices, especially in the hotel industry. The accommodation costs are expected to rise by 20%. Even the famous Louvre, a world-famous museum, will increase the ticket prices from €17 to €22. How to exhibit sustainably (Top Tip Tuesday: IMEX Edition) Research lower emission travel options. We decided to take the train from London to Frankfurt, which took 5.5 hours. We took the Eurostar from St Pancras station without loads of queuing or luggage restrictions at the airport. When we arrived in Brussels, we had a slight delay, but we made the most of it and had a few drinks in the sun while we waited. Then, we were on the last stretch, and it was nice to travel through the countryside on the way to Frankfurt. Take your exhibition stand with you. Yes, it’s a few extra bags to carry, but it wasn’t that difficult without any luggage restrictions. The trains in Europe are spacious, making it easy to load the bags onto the train. Remember to pack it up and take it back with you so you can reuse it at the next event you go to. Throughout the event, to get around the city, why not opt for e-scooters, bikes, or trains rather than taxis, if that’s an option for you? We decided to use e-scooters from our hotel to the venue on the first two days when we didn’t have our bags. Research local suppliers if you’re hosting on-stand events. They can help you deliver a more sustainable option. We hosted a ‘Zero Waste, Maximum Taste Happy Hour,’ where we teamed up with a local beer company offering zero-waste alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer. Using TRACE by isla to plug in the data, we compared the emissions of flying vs going by train for 3 members of staff. You can see the difference in the comments. And that’s how we exhibited sustainably at IMEX Frankfurt. Running from August to October 2024, this initiative showcases the modern and creative aspects of Central European cities, offering US travelers authentic experiences beyond typical tourist spots. In 2023, nearly 1.3 million Americans visited Central Europe, with the Czech Republic welcoming almost half a million of them. This campaign aims to strengthen these connections and attract even more visitors seeking vibrant culture and contemporary attractions. "Our goal is to show American tourists that Central Europe is not only safe and rich in traditions but also full of vibrant culture, concerts, art, modern architecture, and gastronomy. In other words, it’s a place where you can experience an authentic local atmosphere and continuously discover new, interesting, and contemporary attractions. Hotel prices in Paris for the Olympics are down 41% since last fall, indicating the event hasn't boosted tourism as hoped. Similarweb Digital Data shows a year-over-year decline in Paris lodging bookings from the top 10 countries, except for the US. This suggests that Paris, ranked 5th globally in international arrivals by Euromonitor International, doesn't rely on the Olympics. Visitors primarily come for the sights, culture, ambiance, and food, while the event's heavy security, initial high prices, and excitement might detract from these attractions. Interestingly, countries like Serbia and Croatia, with less usual influence on Paris travel, saw a spike in bookings, likely due to popular athletes taking part in the games. When we say tourism what do you think of? Think of all the reasons that people may travel to a new destination whether it's for business or for fun. Other industries that may have a role in tourism most obviously include hospitality and tourist attractions, but what about the other points of interest our visitors come in contact with along the way?
