Reflecting on the importance of a research model design! I recently had the privilege of attending the 6th Certificate Course in Laboratory Animal Handling and Experimentation at the renowned Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) This 4-day workshop, was an incredible opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of biomedical research with laboratory animals. Here are some of the highlights that made this experience unforgettable: 🐭 Hands-on Training: I gained practical skills in handling laboratory animals like rodents and rabbits, including: - Restraining techniques - Sex determination and identification methods - Administration routes - Euthanasia and necropsy procedures - Husbandry Practices 🐠 Zebrafish as a Research Model: I explored zebrafish biomethodologies and their growing importance as an alternative animal model in biomedical research. 📊 Study Design and Ethics: We dived into the essentials of study design, learning techniques like pilot studies and power analysis, while emphasizing ethical considerations guided by the 3Rs principle (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement). 🧬 Cutting-edge Techniques: The course introduced advanced topics like 2D and 3D cell culture methods and their application in liver biology research. This workshop has expanded my perspective on the crucial role of animal models in advancing science while fostering ethical and humane practices. A heartfelt thanks to the ILBS team, K B Patel Savneet Kaur Anupama Parasar Dr. Sandeepa Bhan Tickoo and all the experts from NBRC, RBC and National Immunology Institute who shared their invaluable knowledge and mentored us throughout the program. Also the #PhD scholars at ILBS - Liver Physiology Lab were kind enough to answer my questions related to research. I’m excited to apply these skills in future research and contribute to the scientific community! 🚀 #AnimalResearch #BiomedicalScience #ILBS #LaboratoryTechniques #WorkshopExperience #animal #biomedicalresearch #sciandtech #zebrafish
