Let me tell you a story about altMBA, but first a reminder: this upcoming session (4/22 to 5/23) will be our last, ever. Doors close Sunday, April 14th. – In 2020, mid-pandemic, I stepped up from collaborator to CEO of the business. I thought my years of reading and Seth Godin's world class mentorship had prepared me. But once I felt the weight of those big decisions, the payroll, the culture... It was too heavy. It started to impact my performance. My prior skills weren't the ones I needed to lead people, and I was stuck in a "what got you here, won’t get you there” problem. And all the while, the bottom line depended on my leadership. Can you relate? Like me, our students are often promoted into leadership positions or they’re successful founders who’ve made their first hires. That's why the relief I see on their faces makes sense. In the workshop they finally find peers on the same journey, and tools that work. Over the years, we’ve learned that our “secret sauce” is how we build the cohort. Because who you surround yourself with makes all the difference. You’ll be on this journey with a cohort of like-minded people, all looking to level up, just like you. You’ll develop relationships with people from around the world working in a diverse set of industries and roles. You’ll work in a safe space and have the support of coaches who know exactly how to help you get the most out of your sprint. Think of them like a trainer at the gym, but for your leadership skills. Between the coaches and your peers, you will give and receive more high-quality feedback from proven professionals invested in your growth than you’ve probably exchanged in the past five years. Condense it all down into 31 days, and you start to see how transformational this process can be. My own breakthrough came when I accepted a tough truth: my work was no longer about what I accomplished, but what I helped my team achieve. Helping others win instead of taking all the wins myself, I became more coach, less player. That mindset shift was huge for a longtime individual contributor like me. I had to embrace new habits, new ways of tackling problems. The sobering reality was that I needed to improve my communication skills. That was the “hard part” which success hinged on. I needed to learn how to deeply listen, understand each person’s motivations, and tailor my communication to persuade and inspire. I'm an operator who loves to make things, but along the way I learned to love leadership. And it turns out, when leadership doesn't feel heavy, it’s intensely rewarding. I feel inspired by what I learn from my team, joy in not being alone, satisfaction in solving difficult and important problems, and perhaps most of all—gratitude for the opportunity to build lasting relationships with incredible people. In this case, Amir Harvey Bazrafshan, who wrote this piece with me. The very last session of altMBA is starting soon… It just might be for you.
The relationships and the people from the program have given me a great community of folks that show up generously, push me to be my best and show me what magic is possible.

Thanks for your leadership, Alex Peck. Looking forward to witnessing what’s next for you.
I really hoped to be a part of this again....things are not looking fit currently for me to go for this right now, but I really wanted to do it again in the future and meet more amazing people to work with! I hope somehow, as the curls of fate unravel, this is a possibility to start again. Even if it was for a bit. I hope we all are evolving always and stay closely knit. It's amazing to have come across this community and I hope to only see more.
What a privilege for those lucky few who get to join this last cohort. I cannot thank this team enough for cracking open my own capabilities, showing me the wonder of the infinite dance, letting me discover how much I enjoy writing, and making me seek out and enjoy the pain of stretching myself into new directions. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of your story. Onward and upward! #altMBA39
🫶#altMBA51 - Still making ship-it projects monthly. Thanks for all the love you all put into this.
Many people don’t realize leadership skills = communication skills (which consists of many other micro skills). Thank you for sharing your touching, honest story. altMBA was lucky to have you!
