The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE campaign (Nov 25 - Dec 10) — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (Dec 25). The 2024 campaign - Every 10 Minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women - will draw attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women to revitalise commitments, call for accountability and action from decision-makers. This very much necessitates active contributions by the finance sector. #WomensDay highlights the societal and systemic barriers women have faced throughout history. It commemorates the 9 August 1956 Women’s March to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against legislation aimed at tightening the apartheid government’s control over the movement of black women. While women still face inequalities globally, forward-thinking organisations are answering the call to arms, dedicating considerable resources to empowering more women in professional fields and leadership positions. GRWs Legal and Policy Advisor Vayuna Gupta reports on the discussion and efforts towards a new optional protocol to CEDAW specific to addressing gender-based violence around the world. CEDAW is often described as an international bill of rights for women. To date, CEDAW has been ratified by 189 out of 193 UN member states. Leading this effort is Every Woman Treaty a coalition of 3,800 women’s rights activists from over 147 countries advocating for a new optional protocol to end violence against women and girls. The current UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, Reem Alsalem, also made a statement at the 2024 annual Commission on the Status of Women, calling for the need for a new optional protocol to CEDAW addressing gender based violence–indicative of growing recognition of the need for a binding international instrument to address the epidemic of violence against women and girls. Global Rights for Women unequivocally supports Every Woman Treaty in their endeavors, and we encourage you to learn more by visiting https://bit.ly/3vR957i https://bit.ly/2YqyzUN

Every 10 minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse for this violence against women. Let’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women! The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is a mark the launch of the UNiTE campaign (Nov 25- Dec 10) — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates, International Human Rights Day (10 December). It’s really a need of the time to draw attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women to revitalize commitments, the call for accountability and action from decision-makers to emphasize that the #noexcuse slogan encapsulates the collective responsibility to eradicate this pervasive issue. Let’s underscore the need for global solidarity and concerted efforts to challenge societal norms that perpetuate gender-based violence to call for strong legal frameworks, increased awareness campaigns, and supportive services for survivors. By amplifying the voices of women and girls, I believe that we can create a world where equality, respect, and safety are the norm, not the exception. #UNWOMEN #EmpowerHer #Humanrights #girlseducation #genderequity #UNiTE #16daysofactivism #Endvilolanceagainstwomen #womenempowerment FWCCI- FAISALABAD WOMEN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY FPCCI - Official Page United Nations UN Women

A woman is killed every ten minutes by a partner or family member. While figures like this may seem unfathomable, they reflect a world in which women are denied the most fundamental of human rights. Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of #16days of activism. In this piece for JURIST, I look at the history of this day of observance and what more can be done to protect women. https://lnkd.in/eGqEMavY

🎓 Gender-based violence is a devastating fact of life in #highereducation and #research in Europe for many. 🖤 Research indicates that higher education institutions and research organisations tend to commit #institutionalbetrayal, a concept developed by Jennifer Freyd and her Freyd Dynamic Lab in various forms, failing the duty of care toward students and early career researchers in particular, exploiting the relations of trust and dependency. 📣Let's raise our voices against #GBV in academia! Let us, too, show our commitment to eradicating gender-based violence in our everyday conduct by following the GenderSAFE pledge on zero tolerance approach. 🫶🏼 We all can act - and those in positions of leadership must!
