Do you own a business in Calvert County? The county's new Local Business Preference Program can give you an edge on government contract bids by giving a 5% discount on your bid price for qualifying projects. The Local Business Preference Program is the culmination of a multi-year effort by the BOCC to ensure local businesses have a fair opportunity in the competitive bidding process. From 2022 to 2024, nonresident businesses prevailed in awarded county contracts, highlighting the need for a policy to support local entrepreneurs. The program was developed with input from members of the public and local business groups, including the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce, Southern Maryland Minority Chamber of Commerce and the Calvert County Minority Business Alliance to ensure it aligns with the needs and concerns of the local business community. The Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Oregon and the Black American Chamber of Commerce have partnered together to offer a one-time direct funding opportunity (between $2,500-$25,000),and technical assistance services to chosen minority owned businesses throughout Oregon. This program is called, Impact Now! WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Minority owned for-profit businesses at all stages located within the state of Oregon are eligible to apply for funding opportunities. Priority is given to businesses operating in urban, rural and frontier areas, but the funding is divided so there is no competition for funding between these priority areas.
