🌍 Highlights from Resilience & Adaptation Last week (November 13th), we dove into the pressing topic of resilience and adaptation in the face of climate change. Our speakers led a thought-provoking journey through Singapore’s and the region’s adaptation roadmaps, highlighting the true costs of climate change and its impact on corporations, communities, and natural landscapes. We explored effective approaches to building sustainability across diverse sectors. We learned from inspiring resilience practices and initiatives from India, as well as nature conservation efforts to create a resilient living environment as possible ways for sustainable development. 5 Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ Adaptation is a Necessary Complement to Mitigation Adaptation is not an alternative to mitigation but a necessary complement, as climate impacts will persist even with strong mitigation efforts. 2️⃣ The Economic Imperative of Sustainable Infrastructure Investment Investing in sustainable infrastructure is economically beneficial, with a high benefit-cost ratio, and essential for ensuring the continued functioning of cities and societies. 3️⃣ Advancing Youth-Driven Environmental Leadership Through YES, students become environmental advocates through peer learning, fostering increased awareness and engagement in environmental issues among younger students. 4️⃣ Localised Climate Adaptation: India’s 3rd Pillar of Growth With 121 agroclimatic zones in India one size doesn’t fit all. Effective adaptation strategies require integrating local knowledge and experiences with scientific insights. 5️⃣ Climate Adaptation & Community Preparedness for Climate Events Recognizing the importance of collective action in addition to government efforts, Singapore is engaging community leaders to foster community-level preparedness and response strategies for extreme weather events. Thank you for joining us in exploring the critical role of climate adaptation alongside mitigation efforts. From the economic case for sustainable infrastructure to India's diverse strategies, your engagement highlights the power of collective action. 🤝 🔈 You still have a chance to be part of the conversation. 🌍 India's Leadership in Driving Global Climate Action at #COP29 🌍 At the '2024 Annual High-level Ministerial Roundtable on Pre-2030 Ambition' during the COP29 UN Climate Change Summit in Baku, India outlined four key areas critical for advancing global climate action: 1️⃣ Scaling Up Innovation & Technology Transfer • Unrestricted access to green technologies is vital for developing nations to transition to low-carbon economies. India emphasized the need to eliminate Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) barriers, enabling equitable access to climate solutions. 2️⃣ Prioritising Climate Finance • The gap in climate funding remains a pressing concern. India highlighted the importance of fulfilling financial commitments to support clean energy deployment, disaster-resilient infrastructure, and adaptation projects in developing nations. 3️⃣ Strengthening International Cooperation • Collaboration across nations is essential for cost-effective and scalable mitigation solutions. India raised concerns about unilateral measures that place undue financial burdens on developing countries and called for fairer global partnerships. 4️⃣ Fostering Mutual Trust • Building trust is central to achieving ambitious climate goals. India stressed the principle of equity and climate justice, urging developed nations to meet their commitments and lead with impactful emission reductions. Insights from India’s NDCs Synthesis Report: By 2030, 86% of the global carbon budget could be consumed, underscoring the need for urgent and decisive action. The report also signals hope, with updated NDCs showing a projected 2.6% reduction in global emissions by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. India’s intervention at COP29 reflects its commitment to equitable, ambitious, and practical solutions for a sustainable future. Together, we can turn these goals into reality. 🌱 #IndiaAtCOP29 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #DevelopingNations #GlobalSouth #ClimateJustice #TechnologyTransfer #ClimateFinance #ClimateChange #ParisAgreement #Adaptation #Mitigation #ClimateResilience #KBSCertification #SustainableDevelopment

"Climate change is not just an issue; it is a pressing reality. Over the past 10 years, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, we have outlined eight Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that reflect India’s commitment to the Paris Agreement. Among G20 countries, India is the only nation to achieve its 2030 goals by 2021. We have been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at climate change mitigation. In Modi 3.0, on World Environment Day, the Prime Minister launched the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative to enhance green cover across the country. To date, 980 million trees have been planted, with updates provided on the initiative's website. We are committed to reviewing the greenhouse gas (GHG) reports of every country. Based on 2019 data, we have submitted our own GHG report, aiming to reduce emissions by 2070. There is global confidence that India will effectively meet its targets. However, we are confronted with three critical threats: rising temperatures, biodiversity loss, and food security. To address these challenges, we have identified seven key sectors where development and mitigation efforts should be concentrated. The government's goal is to achieve "Energy for All." At COP29, India aims to advocate for its ambition to work collaboratively on solutions with the Global South." - Chief Guest, Bhupender Yadav, Hon’ble Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) presents 6th Edition of Times Now Global Sustainability Alliance SDG Summit 2024, Strategic Partner Bootes Impex Tech Ltd., co-powered by Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. and Sunsure Energy. #TimesNowGSASDG2024 #TimesNowSDGSummit2024 #Sustainability #GSA #GlobalSustainabilityAlliance #SDG #SustainableGrowth #climatechange #RiseToRevive #planetbuddy

At the main summit of Unlocking capital for sustainability Jessica Cheam, Founder and Managing Director, Eco-Business, highlighted that no single country is on track to meet its SDG targets. She urges action to counter apathy. Asia is blessed, she said, but the blessings come with great responsibilities. Ravi Menon, Ambassador for Climate Action & Senior Adviser (National Climate Change Secretariat, Singapore), says, “The only KPI that matters is what’s happening to global temperatures and greenhouse gas emissions. And it’s in Asia that the battle for climate change will be won or lost.” Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS), emphasised shared responsibility, pointing out that all of humanity is on a single boat that may yet sink or float. He believes that by setting better examples and making the necessary sacrifices, the world can win the battle against climate change. I believe that the power is in our hands! Our procurement decisions, both individually and corporately, have the potential to either elevate or mitigate the climate crisis. In our daily choices, we set trends and create demand for sustainable alternatives. By rejecting products that harm both us and the environment, we push regulators to take action, driving change from both the top down and the bottom up. It’s essential to be informed—choose to know. Read the labels, understand the supply chains behind the products we consume. Together, we must unite and advocate for a better future for our children and future generations. #Impact #Sustainability #Change #Empowerment
