Day 5 at AlterCOP 29: Energy Transition & Decarbonisation in Focus On November 15th, we explored critical pathways to sustainable energy, delving into Singapore’s role in advancing decarbonisation across industries. Panels highlighted renewable energy’s impact on fossil fuel reduction, the importance of battery storage in ensuring energy resilience, and green hydrogen’s potential to drive zero-emission growth. Additional discussions tackled climate finance, carbon markets, and corporate commitments, with insights on engaging stakeholders in the journey toward carbon neutrality. For the evening spotlight programme, we had the privilege of having Dr Koh, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Manpower & Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment to explore further those topics. 5 Key Takeaways from Day 5: 1. Decarbonisation: an Urgent and Essential Goal Decarbonisation is not just an idealistic vision. The climate crisis demands immediate action because the climate crisis isn't waiting for anyone. The time to act is now! 2. Cross Border Collaboration: Powering the Planet with Renewable Energy Cross-border energy trading and collaboration could help overcome geographical limitations and optimise renewable energy utilisation across Southeast Asia. 3. Green Hydrogen's Role in Global Decarbonisation Green hydrogen is emerging as a crucial element in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors and addressing energy challenges in regions where direct electrification is difficult. 4. Incentivising Decarbonisation and Innovation Funding Carbon markets incentivise decarbonisation through various mechanisms such as emissions trading, carbon pricing, and emission caps. 5. Breaking the Chain of Inaction: Decarbonisation from Supplier to Customer Any company can also break the chain of inaction by engaging suppliers customers to start a movement. Thank you to our expert speakers for renewing our lens on how we can influence and accelerate decarbonisation. Final chance! During the recent COP29-IEA Roundtable, over 50 global leaders from energy, climate, and finance gathered to address the critical challenge of scaling up clean energy investments. The consensus is clear: To achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050, global clean energy investments must double to over $4 trillion annually by 2030. This ambitious target requires increased cooperation between governments, financial institutions, and industries, especially in emerging and developing economies. At Indi Energy, we fully endorse this vision. Accelerated investment in clean energy projects is essential for reaching net zero emissions and fostering a sustainable future, and this includes leveraging sodium-ion batteries! Indi Energy’s revolutionary sodium-ion battery technology will significantly enhance the viability and accessibility of renewable energy, particularly in regions facing barriers related to cost and resource availability, thereby reinforcing the clean energy ecosystem. We urge industry leaders, governments, and all stakeholders to join us in driving the adoption of sodium-ion battery technology. Together, let's support our collective transition to a sustainable future and achieve our climate objectives! @MinistryofEnergyandMinerals @MinistryofCoal-Official @COP29Azerbaijan @MinistryofNewandRenewableEnergy(MNRE) @piyushgoyal #COP29 #IEARoundtable #CleanEnergyInvestment #NetZero2050 #SustainableFuture #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #GreenTechnology #SodiumIonBatteries #IndiEnergy #CleanTech #GlobalLeaders #SustainableDevelopment #EmergingMarkets #GreenInvestments #ClimateChange #EnergyInnovation #RenewableFuture #ClimateGoals #SustainableGrowth #GreenEnergyRevolution #EcoInnovation #ClimateLeadership

⚡ Unlocking a #CleanEnergy future calls for the transformation of outdated Energy Governance Frameworks! At #COP28, world leaders committed to tripling #RenewableEnergy capacity by 2030, but outdated energy systems and governance structures still prioritize #FossilFuels. 🚫 Near-monopoly control by state-owned utilities, exclusion of RE players from decision-making, and conflicts of interest that block investment in clean alternatives are stalling RE deployment. To truly accelerate progress, inclusive and transparent energy governance is essential. Our Think20 Brief, co-authored by Ja Hyun Kim, Solutions for Our Climate and Mariano Birlain Escalante, Iniciativa Climática de México, sheds light on the path forward. 🔑 What must G20 nations do to ensure a just and inclusive energy transition? ✅ Prevent conflicts of interest by unbundling financial connections in the power sector ✅ Strengthen independent energy regulatory bodies ✅ Ensure all stakeholders, including RE players, have a seat at the table By transforming energy governance, we can create a level playing field for renewable energy, foster innovation, and accelerate the transition to a cleaner future. 🌿 📖 Read more on the SFOC website: https://lnkd.in/gTdJu6fa #T20Brief #NewReport #FossilFuelPhaseOut #TripleRenewables

This year’s #COP29 marked the midpoint of a critical decade for shaping a sustainable energy future, with just five years left to achieve the Paris Agreement’s target of reducing emissions by 45% by 2030. Significant progress was made during COP29 to accelerate climate action. This included the launch of the Global Energy Storage and Grids Pledge to increase global energy storage capacity sixfold from 2022 levels to 1,500 gigawatts by 2030, as well as the Hydrogen Declaration, aiming to unlock the potential of a global market for clean hydrogen and its derivatives. These initiatives, and many others, highlight momentum toward global collaboration on key enablers. Turning this momentum into meaningful impact requires scaling up finance and fostering innovation. I participated in an EY panel where we discussed creating a stable incentive framework to support early-tech adoption and close the “say-do” gap. These steps are essential to attracting investments, managing risks, and accelerating the transition to clean energy systems. Building on this theme, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) roundtable with the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID) further emphasized the importance of coordinated action across industrial sectors with high emissions. These include cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 54%, expanding renewable energy capacity to 534 GW by 2030, and accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen and bioenergy. AFID also pledged to invest $124 billion in energy transition projects, reinforcing its dedication to impactful and measurable climate action. To move faster, a shift in mindset is critical—one that prioritizes investment in new and disruptive technologies to propel industries forward. Scaling these technologies into large projects allows us to move toward impactful solutions at the speed required to meet our climate goals. It’s been a privilege to engage with leaders, innovators, and partners, all united by a shared commitment to driving the energy transition forward. With the momentum we’ve created, we are well-positioned to drive lasting change and accelerate our journey toward a low-carbon future. SLB New Energy #WeAreSLB #EnergyTransition #Sustainability
