I had a heartfelt conversation with a dear friend recently who has carried the weight of shame and guilt for years after leaving an abusive, alcoholic husband. It's tough stuff, and life is rarely simple.
I shared a powerful resilience message with her, which deeply moved and strengthened her. She said she was going to print it out and carry it around! We cannot make a mistake as we do the best we can in every moment, given the information, resources, and energy we have at the time. The key is to learn from the experience, and with new information, better resources, or renewed energy, we can always improve and do better moving forward. That’s all we can ask of ourselves. And, just imagine what happens when we share this with others—it ripples a WinWinWin Mindset. By releasing that negative energy, we make room for the positive ripples to flow into our relationships and the world around us.
A special thank you to iPEC Coaching and Bruce D Schneider, M.C.C., for teaching these powerful lessons to me and countless other iPEC Coaches, our clients, and our communities.
I created my podcast, Resilience Gone Wild, because I believe resilience is essential for flourishing—and nature offers incredible insights to build our resilience toolbox. This 'not a mistake' lesson is the focus of episodes 1 & 2, which feature sea turtles and a discussion with Andy Dehart, CEO of Loggerhead Marinelife Center, about thriving through what others might see as mistakes. Episodes 3 & 4 highlight alligators and finding calm in the chaos with veterinarian Dr. Phil Richmond who is bringing well-being to his community.
Sneak peek! Episodes 5 & 6 (Halloween theme 👻🎃) explore nature that thrives in the shadows, how we can bring light to our own shadow selves, and include a follow-up interview with Valerie Tovar of Loggerhead where we explore ocean conservation and what's hidden below in the darkness that needs to be brought into the light.
Some of the upcoming episodes:
- Getting into flow with laughing gulls and a conversation with author Sy Montgomery (Soul of an Octopus).
- Uncovering your purpose with parrotfish and Emiliya Zhivotovskaya, founder of The Flourishing Center.
- Finding compassion and embracing the Platinum Rule with elephants and nature guru/photographer Ken Coe.
- The power of banyan trees and nature metaphors with author and coach Lyssa deHart, LICSW, MCC, BCC.
Plus many more exciting resilience topics and resilient nature superheroes!
I hope you'll check it all out! Weekly newsletters with bonus content and lots of related transformative talks and workshops are available, too (WinWinWin Mindset). I’d love to hear your thoughts—let me know what resonates with you and what changes for you!
