✨ "Sometimes things need to get worse before they get better."
Back in 2013, this quote from Jeremy Schultz left a profound impression on me. Since then, I've seen it come to life countless times in both professional and personal contexts. 💡
It’s like an engine that isn’t running smoothly.
Sometimes, you have to disassemble it.
Making things look worse initially.
But once cleaned and reassembled,
it runs better than ever.
A perfect example of this was when AWS launched its first separate legal entity back in 2018 in EMEA. This was a crucial move to get closer to our customers, but came with immense challenges around taxation, billing, and cost management.
🛠️ The first year was very demanding and required a ton of change management - on AWS as well as our customer’s side.
This is why some organizations embrace continuous change. Breaking the status quo is essential, even when the saying goes, "never touch a working system." 📈
Sometimes, a little chaos is needed to build something better.
After all, it's the bumps in the road that lead us to smoother rides ahead.

Emotional Intelligence: The Key to Success
At Culminate, one of our cherished team-building traditions before Thanksgiving is focusing on Emotional Intelligence. This year, we had the privilege of learning from Richard Hua, a world-class expert at Amazon Web Services (AWS) who has trained hundreds of thousands of Amazonians and leaders globally—and we’re excited to share these insights!
One of the most impactful EQ practices we embrace is daily gratitude, which boosts positivity and enhances health and longevity. As we reflect on our journey, we incredibly grateful for:
Our customers, who believe in our vision and execution, give us the opportunity to protect their businesses, and provide candid feedback that shapes Culminate into a best-in-class product.
Our investors and advisors, whose unwavering support drives us forward, connects us with invaluable opportunities, and helps us attract world-class talent.
Our founding team, whose extraordinary efforts deliver the 10-100X outcomes our customers rely on.
Our partners, who amplify our vision, open doors to new possibilities, and stand with us every step of the way—your support is invaluable in driving our collective success.
Looking forward to reconnecting at AWS re:Invent next week. Wishing everyone a joyful and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving! 🦃🍁

I recently switched teams, and this is a photo of my old team—huge shoutout to them for all the great memories and support.
Switching teams at AWS, even in the same role, can feel like starting a new job. You want to get through the forming and storming phases quickly—build relationships, understand new dynamics, and get up to speed. But there’s a trap in trying to accelerate that process by adopting the habits and beliefs of those around you just to fit in. It might seem easier, but it can come at the cost of losing your authenticity. The real challenge is navigating those early stages while staying true to your values and principles.
From a small garage to the richest man on Earth.
This is the incredible journey of Jeffrey Jorgensen, better known as Jeff Bezos.
Graduating at 22 with a degree in electrical engineering, Jeff left his job at 30 to start a virtual bookstore in Seattle. Running Amazon from his garage, he took the company public in 1997 and soon expanded to selling everything from A to Z worldwide.
At 18, Jeff dreamed of preserving Earth. In 2000, he founded Blue Origin to make sustainable space travel a reality. By 2006, he launched AWS, revolutionizing cloud computing. He also committed Amazon to carbon neutrality by 2040.
Amazon's value skyrocketed over 170,000%, making Jeff the richest person in 2018 with $112 billion. His relentless drive transformed retail pioneered online shopping, and reshaped industries across the globe.

Every great industry today started with very few people maybe 2 or 3 or 4. But consistency and hard work made them push for a greater height and today they're reaping in great folds.
Some of them are;
✅Google was started by just 2 persons Larry and brin, but today it's the most widely used search engine globally.
✅Before Microsoft acquired it(even though they still operate independently), Github was founded by 4 co-founders. But today it's an essential platform for creating, sharing and storing projects.
✅Apple which was founded by Steve Jobs and 2 other persons (Wozniak, and Ronald ). But today almost everyone owns an apple product.
✅Drew Houston started Dropbox in 2007 out of personal frustration with forgetting his flash drive. Now, it’s a leading cloud storage company used by millions worldwide.
✅The great Amazon today was started by Jeff bezos as an online bookseller. But today Amazon has expanded into a vast empire of selling a wide range of products and cloud computing services through AWS and even automobiles
The list can never be exhausted, but in all, they were able to achieve all this through team work. Everyone brought something to the table and today they are all perfectly fitted on top.
what's stopping your team from reaching this height?, it's left for you as a team leader to find the right motivation for your team. The results might not be enticing now, but in the near future it will definitely pay off.

As the newly appointed CEO of AWS, Matt Garman steps into his role with a wealth of experience and a vision for the future. With his leadership, there's a sense of anticipation in the air, a feeling that change is on the horizon, bringing with it both challenges and opportunities.
One area where we might see shifts is in the focus on new markets. Matt's strategic mindset and growth focus could lead to prioritising expanding AWS's reach into untapped territories or emerging industry segments. This could mean increased marketing efforts, targeted product development initiatives, or even strategic acquisitions to bolster AWS's presence in key sectors. That approach can be balanced with his product quality excellence, which could translate into focusing on growing the current market through innovative and improved services.
Moreover, Matt's reputation for fostering collaboration and teamwork could herald a new era of synergy within AWS. Breaking down silos and encouraging cross-functional innovation could become the norm, driving us to new heights of creativity and efficiency. Matt has already announced that he will make some organisational adjustments. Will it be with this intention?
Efficiency, too, might become a hallmark of Matt's leadership. While AWS is already renowned for its operational excellence, Matt's keen eye for optimisation could further streamline internal processes and resource allocation, ensuring that AWS continuously operates at peak performance.
Under Matt's guidance, we may see an evolution in service offerings. With his finger on the pulse of emerging technologies, Garman could steer AWS towards new frontiers such as edge computing, quantum computing, or AI-powered solutions, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of innovation.
Also, let's remember the importance of clear communication. Matt's emphasis on transparency and openness could lead to a new era of customer engagement, with more transparent communication around product roadmaps and development plans fostering more robust relationships with valued customers and partners.
But among all these changes, some things will likely remain the same. AWS's unwavering commitment to customer centricity, for instance, is a cornerstone of AWS's success and is unlikely to waver under Garman's leadership. Similarly, dedication to continuous innovation and a long-term vision for sustainable growth are values that will endure, driving us forward into the future.
Of course, there are uncertainties, too. Matt has not yet revealed the specifics of his growth strategies, and we are yet to see the impact of his leadership style on existing teams within AWS. But one thing is sure: transitioning to Matt Garman brings excitement and possibilities.
For those who know AWS well, what are your thoughts about this change?

Imagine placing a 'risky bet' that the world doubted – only to watch it redefine your industry.
Years ago, Amazon took that leap with AWS, facing skepticism and uncertain odds. Today? AWS generated $103 billion in revenue last year, surpassing 468 companies in the S&P 500. 🚀 This isn’t just a financial milestone; it’s a testament to the power of bold vision and resilience in the face of doubt.
💡 Takeaways for the risk-takers: 1️⃣ Sometimes the boldest moves seem the riskiest – but that’s where real growth happens. 2️⃣ Vision isn’t about immediate acceptance; it’s about long-term transformation. 3️⃣ Staying the course amidst doubt often sets the path for revolutionary success.
Question: What’s one “risky” decision you’ve made that’s paid off in your journey? Or is there a leap you’re still hesitating to take? Your story might inspire someone else to trust their vision today. 🌟
