This time of year is a reflection of everything accomplished. We're grateful for the opportunity to power rural America! 🌾 Every project we undertake not only fuels America, but also secures the future for many rural communities. We are excited to be a part of the energy landscape in America, contributing to an energy-independent future and empowering communities across the nation. #allegiantland #thedifferenceisinourroots

How can energy and environmental projects follow a human centered design process that centers potentially impacted communities’ at the outset and throughout the project’s development to avoid the potential downstream impacts, injustices, and cultural infringements? #energy #humancentereddesign #environmentaljustice #healthycommunities #breakthecycle
“We are not in opposition to what is called ‘green energy,’” she said. “It was the process of how it was done. The project is going through without due process.” It’s a familiar complaint at Indigenous gatherings such as the one last week at the U.N., where the general consensus among Indigenous peoples is that decision makers behind green energy projects typically don’t address community concerns. https://lnkd.in/eJwvbuDx

Billions of dollars are available from the #inflationreductionact to help rural electric cooperatives upgrade their infrastructure and shift to renewables, but getting them to act will take education, outreach, and organizing of members. Groups like OneVoiceMS, Partnership for Southern Equity, the Advancing Equity and Opportunity Collaborative, and Georgia Conservation Voters are using scorecards and local organizing to get people engaged. Check out this explainer video to understand more about how electric cooperatives work and the exciting opportunity for an energy transformation rooted in rural America. #ruralpower Clean Energy Works https://lnkd.in/gGAD4C74

One of our goals at Invest in Our Future is to take advantage of the broad range of people and communities that federal clean energy investments will impact to assemble the broadest possible coalitions in support. Along with climate advocates, we want to rally people energized by the possibility of broadening their community’s tax base, building greater equity into the local economy, creating new, good-paying jobs, and improving the health of our kids. You can see this approach taking shape in Wisconsin, where several of our grantees are bringing groups together to create a clean energy future for the state. Forward Together Wisconsin (FTW) is enlisting labor unions, teachers and school administrators, colleges and universities, community-based organizations, and environmental advocates in their wide-reaching effort to build public support for clean energy investments—particularly in rural, tribal, and working-class communities, along with communities of color. FTW has also partnered with Wisconsin Conservation Voters to go directly to Wisconsinites—knocking tens of thousands of doors to deliver raise awareness on clean energy programs and incentives and cultivate new evangelists for the cause. Elsewhere in the state, the folks at the Rural Climate Partnership are studying the messages and messengers that can rally Wisconsin’s rural residents to embrace, and even demand, new clean energy projects. And Elevate Energy is collaborating with community-based organizations, affordable housing developers, and contractors to identify homes in lower-income communities, indigenous communities, and communities of color that would benefit from retrofits and energy upgrades. Across Wisconsin, our grantees have taken on an effort to engage virtually every constituency that these investments could touch, and to rally them around the cause of implementation. We’ll be watching closely to see how this approach works—and how we can replicate it nationwide. 2/2 The funds will support a wide range of projects, including distributed clean power generation and storage, net-zero retrofits of homes and small businesses, and zero-emission transportation, to lower energy costs for families and improve housing affordability while tackling the climate crisis. The selected applicants have collectively committed to reducing or avoiding up to 40 MM metric tons of carbon pollution *annually* over the next seven years. In addition, grantees will mobilize almost $7 of private capital for every $1 of federal funds—approximately $150 billion total—ensuring that today’s awards will have a catalytic, ongoing effect on the deployment of climate and clean energy technologies at scale, particularly in underserved communities.

Affordable energy is a civil rights issue and must be addressed in our energy policy discussions. At the 2024 National Action Network Convention, Rev. Dr. Malcolm T. Byrd, Chief Operating Officer of the National Action Network and Senior Pastor at Mother AME Zion Church in Harlem, New York, shared that his church spends $5,000-$6,000 every 2 weeks on heating oil – taking away vital funds that could be devoted towards community development. We must ensure that America’s energy policies do not sacrifice reliability or affordability for families and businesses across the United States. Learn how natural gas, partnered with renewables, is a pragmatic energy strategy that can move all communities forward: https://lnkd.in/deTAjieA
