Hey good managers! Now is a great time to have a mid-year chat with your employees. Let's do better for the 56% who only talk about goals with their manager once a year or less! (Gallop, 2023) 💫 Sparking the convo: • "Let's expand our next 1x1 into a mid-year check in on annual goals, your growth and feedback we have for each other." • Extend a meeting a couple of weeks out. Set an agenda and a small (<hr) expectation of pre-work. • Tell your whole team together and individually that you'll be doing this with the goal of connection to each other, connection to highest impact goals, and to ensure you can help them in Q3/4. 🚀 Your Pre-work: • Seek and checkin on YOUR progress towards your goals, business impact and growth. • Ask your boss for input: "I'm running mid-year checkins with my team, is there anything you need us to think about differently or reprioritize?" and "What positive feedback would you have for each person?" What am I missing, or how do you think about a productive mid year touch point? p.s. More to come on the actual meeting itself tomorrow. This is your sign to double-check your Q2 goals for clarity and purpose. Your team can work their hardest, only to fail because of a poorly set goal. Take the extra 10 minutes to gut-check your goals. You'll thank me later! Here are some questions to ask: → Is this goal clearly defined and specific? → Can it be broken down to smaller tasks and jobs? → Does this goal align with our team's OKRs or mission? → Is this goal challenging yet realistic? → Do we have KPIs to track and measure our progress? → Do we have a clear deadline or timeframe for this goal? → Do we have designated owners for this goal and set responsibilities? → Do we have the necessary resources allocated to us? → Does the team know why this goal was set? → Does this goal inherently motivate our team? We often forget that goal-setting is a hard-earned skill for managers, and a strategic task that takes time to do right. It's the perfect time to carefully set and drive alignment for success! As a fast-growing company, promoting your best individual contributors to team lead is often necessary to keep up with demand. But here’s a common.. and costly trap… Your new manager might be handling things with the “it’ll be quicker if I did it myself” mindset. … And here’s what it’s costing you: 🟠 Team Underperformance. Your talent stays underutilized, disengaged, and frustrated. 🟠 Bottlenecks Everywhere. Decisions drag as the team sits around waiting on just ONE person. 🟠 Hidden Turnover Risk. Great employees don’t stick around if they’re not growing. Micromanagement might seem efficient, but it ultimately holds the whole team back. Let’s begin to uppack that… I'm running an ‘Effective Decision-Making’ Lunch & Learn for First-Time Managers. It’s a quick, actionable session to help your team leads delegate, empower, and drive results. Send me a DM or email ([email protected]) to chat about brining this session to your team 🧡 #leadershipnuggets #organisationaldevelopment #talentdevelopment #humanresources

I’ve been asked this question many times: How do you create a high-performing self-managed team without sacrificing individual needs or team goals? Is there a way to balance both effectively? Let’s explore. Focusing on Individual Growth: ✅ Pros: ↳ Increases employee satisfaction and retention ↳ Encourages innovation and creativity ↳ Develops future leaders within the team ❌ Cons: ↳ Can lead to misalignment with team goals ↳ Risk of overemphasizing personal achievements ↳ Requires significant time and resources *Focusing on Team Objectives:* ✅ Pros: ↳ Drives collective success and goal achievement ↳ Ensures everyone is working toward the same outcomes ↳ Builds a strong, unified team culture ❌ Cons: ↳ Can overlook individual aspirations and potential ↳ May stifle creativity and personal growth ↳ Risk of burnout if individual needs are ignored So, how do you find the right balance? Both. Success in self-managed teams doesn’t just happen. It requires a careful balance—one where individual growth and team objectives are both given the attention they deserve. In my experience, this balance is only possible when there’s open, honest communication. When team members understand how their personal goals align with the team’s mission, trust is built, and everyone moves forward together. What strategies have you found effective in managing self-directed teams? Share your thoughts in the comments below! #Leadership #TeamManagement #AIInnovation #GrowthMindset

Hello there! I want to share with you a new and exciting trend that's changing the way we do performance reviews. Instead of the usual boring meetings, imagine having engaging conversations that motivate and inspire you. These reviews are designed to help you grow and develop, so you can reach new heights of success. But here's the best part: instead of just looking back at your past performance, these reviews focus on strategic discussions that help you achieve your goals and aspirations. You can use your past experiences to fuel your future success. And the best thing? We focus on amplifying your strengths and identifying growth opportunities, instead of just pointing out weaknesses. This approach leaves you feeling empowered and ready to take on the world. But it doesn't stop there. When you're feeling motivated, you become a catalyst for positive change that inspires those around you. Together, we can create a culture of growth and innovation that benefits everyone. So let's embrace this new approach to performance reviews and create a workplace where everyone can thrive, innovate, and achieve success. #PerformanceReviews #Empowerment #Innovation
