Are we using AI for the right things? This post resonated with me as a professional in HR responsible for building capability with professional qualifications. The myriad of tech applications designed to streamline HR processes is impressive but the user interfaces are still clunky and frustrating. Add in the twitter chat around just now asking why AI can’t do laundry/clean your house so you have more time to be creative rather than leaving humans with mundane, less fulfilling work and it does make you wonder if there needs to be an adjustment in how we use/design tech. A greater focus on human capability could be the missing link to make sure we really understand the human experience and human design from all angles. https://lnkd.in/ep2PnF5u

In today's email digest of The Neuron - AI News, the topic of AI in hiring is considered. I can see how AI could make the hiring process more efficient, but would it make it more effective? That is, how would AI in hiring curtail human bias in hiring and select the "best candidate" for a role more objectively? In the brief article, the Anthropic company is described as having eliminated "nearly all bias" in its chatbot, Claude, by simply telling it not to be biased. Sounds like a good start, and I am curious to see what the outcomes of *those* hiring decisions would have been, or would be. I think hybrid application of AI in hiring would be good to accelerate screening of large number of applicants with their protected characteristics omitted (name, age, gender, etc.), and to promptly notify candidates of one of the two true outcomes: rejection or invitation to interview. However, human review and frequent audit of the AI would be crucial to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness. Perhaps other patterns of bias heretofore unknown or unacknowledged could be revealed in the human review of the AI decisions that could help mitigate the bias and improve the process and tool(s) overall. #AI #hiring #diversity #inclusion https://lnkd.in/gK8gjqye

AI and HIRING = (what say you?) I've been involved in recruiting/hiring in the AI space for well over the past 5 years well before ChatGPT became a household name (at least for us geeks). So the fact is Generative AI IS AND WILL create a need for FEWER Recruiters. I guarantee it! So instead of needing 10 recruiters/sourcers, a company may only need 7 b/c GAI is going to help alleviate the more mundane and redundant tasks as well as expedite the entire recruiting process for many obvious reasons. ' So as it's been said, embrace the technology as it's here to stay. Ignore it and you'll find yourself searching for another line of work. New Blog Alert! AI is Destroying Hiring: Here's a Solution. AI, especially ChatGPT, offers incredible potential but also significant pitfalls. In hiring, AI’s impact is undeniable. “Speaking of creative design, a report recently indicated that AI is on the verge of claiming architecture and design jobs from professionals with the prevalence of sophisticated AI-powered tools like Image Creator from Designer and Midjourney. As of late last year, we’ve seen a 142x increase in LinkedIn members adding AI skills like Copilot and ChatGPT to their profiles and a 160% increase in non-technical professionals using LinkedIn Learning courses to build their AI aptitude. Moving forward, it seems that recruiters will consider AI skills heavily before hiring anyone. Per the report, two-thirds of polled leaders indicate they won't hire anyone without AI skills, despite only 39% of the employees in their company having these skills. Professionals are actively upskilling in the AI landscape, perhaps to maintain their importance in the workplace”

I've spoken to quite a few HR Execs about their AI strategy. Here's my general advice: 1. Don't panic, a lot of fly by night AI startups and major tech companies are talking about AI agent this, and AI agent that, but most of this is hype. I've yet to see anyone ship an AI agent product that's reliable enough to hand over workflows too. 2. The wheels of justice grind slow but they grind fine, large tech companies were slow to launch AI products but once they get rolling they will start grinding AI startups to dust specifically ones that are just doing Q&A/RAG on a corpus of data. That being said, whomever your company uses regularly for communication: slack, teams (life is tough), Gmail, etc, figure out their product roadmap because odds are they will make in AI/LLM into the core product so you don't have to shop around. 3. If your corp eng team is excited and wants to build something, see if you can get the corp eng VP to promise Eng headcount for this product for a decade, a decade you say? Yes and get it in writing. If they can't, once another company fire hits, you lose your engineer, while your vendors products improve but your hack atrophies and now you are slowing down your entire company, killing your employee experience and nuking your HR teams productivity. 4. Brush up my AI tech, I'm not talking go learn how to build a language models, but have someone on your team learn what a language models is, learn how AI agents work, learn about RAG learn the strengths and weaknesses of LLM architecture. There are plenty of videos on this plug: https://lnkd.in/g3_TvDVg That's about it, I have more but meh, LinkedIn is where my content goes to die. Not enough jargon for it to do well with the algo. If you need help thinking this through DM me so we can set up a call.

Joe Procopio makes several good points – over the last several months, I've seen a lot of people worried over the effects of AI in HR departments. Many of these worries, in turn, stemmed from the hiring process, candidates being pushed out, and internal biases being programmed into the machines. There's a lot to unpack here, especially in the sense of an app that can let candidates apply to thousands of jobs at once, but it's clear that this can't be the solution. We need an app that improves the process, not overwhelms it. #AI #Hiring
