Perhaps we have not yet grabbed the headlines, but for the Greespi team it’s a big achievement! We are done with fine tuning of our first EU production facilities, and we are set to solve one of the greatest problems of mankind, and of each human being in particular, in an eco-friendly way and according to the UN sustainable development goals. How? We have created a project which: ✔️ produces a natural product with top nutritional benefits which render it functional food, with significant research behind its therapeutic influence on the body; ✔️ does not utilize any fertile soils, absorbs carbon and produces oxygen; ✔️ has a stable business model - proof to supply risks; ✔️ has a tried and tested marketing model, and our proprietary platform sells directly to a consumer, which allows us to provide top service and get immediate customer feedback. ✔️ is highly automated and easily scalable, at the same time hard to copy. Now, our team invites partners to participate in our American expansion plan. How does it sound to you, Vinod Khosla and Khosla Ventures?

GEA has begun construction of its technology center for alternative proteins in Janesville, Wisconsin. Scheduled to open in 2025, the center will scale up the production of novel plant-based, microbial, and cell-based foods. “This investment underscores our commitment to innovation and sustainability in the food industry,” said Arpad Csay, who leads GEA Group's new food activities in North America, at the groundbreaking ceremony on 8 May 2024. The center will house pilot lines for cell cultivation and precision fermentation, bridging the gap between benchtop and commercial production of alternative proteins. “The technology center will offer foodtech businesses a platform to develop and derisk their processes to ensure technological and commercial viability. It helps startups in the sector implement a business strategy that requires little upfront investment. This way, we help accelerate the development of market-ready products.” #foodtech #alternativeproteins #scaleup #innovation #foodproduction

Bench Mark. ‘A standard or point of reference against which things may be compared or assessed.’ Startup companies across industry sectors beginning with the automotive pioneers of the early 1900s to today’s entrepreneurs in the biotech, green energy, retail, and textile industries have consistently faced long-shot odds with success rates typically between 10% and 20%. These examples are relevant to the emergent industrial hemp sector as well. There are many entrepreneurs along all points on value chains working to get their feet on steady ground developing technologies, growing the crop, or producing and marketing new biobased products made from hemp. Success depends on securing funding, leveraging partnerships to establish efficient supply chains, and adopting business models that align with emerging market demands that can compete with other biobased products already in the market. Oregon State University’s Global Hemp Innovation Center and our university and federal laboratory collaborators are grateful for the private-public partnerships we have with start-up companies doing research to help them make science-based decisions that increase the odds of their long-term success. There is a good deal of literature discussing start-up success and how to improve the odds. Here is one reference: https://lnkd.in/gbRUEv2Y Support for our collaborations are made possible by support from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture's Sustainable Agricultural Systems program and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Partnerships for Climate Smart Commodities program.

GFI senior corporate engagement innovation manager Laine Clark explores the challenges facing today’s alt protein innovators, opportunities for new + diversified funding sources, and why she is optimistic for the future of the industry. Read more in our blog 👉 https://bit.ly/49B3S1W Like most sectors, the #alternativeprotein space has experienced a recent downturn in #funding, but that is expected in any nascent industry, particularly against the backdrop of global economic contraction. Funding declines will lead to natural and healthy industry consolidation, and some promising startups will continue to build and grow, ultimately resulting in a stronger sector that excites investors.
