“I don’t work in tech, can I come to WILD?”
We set up the WILD (Women in Lancaster Digital) Network to make a space for women and non binary folk who work in digital and tech roles, and we deliberately never define “digital”.
Because I’m done with gatekeeping communities. It’s why we never turn anyone away! It’s why allies are invited. It’s why we run a mixture of subject and personal development talks. It’s why we called it “digital” and not “tech”.
That, and WILD is better than WILT… 🌿🌱🍃

👀 When she walks into the room - what do you assume?
I attended a developer networking event with one of my male direct reports a few years ago.
No matter how often my male employee told the organiser I was his boss, the organiser (a guy) couldn't process it.
He asked me a few times what reporting to my employee was like.
In the end, my employee put him straight - as the organiser couldn't process my words..."I don't report to him".
That was a regular experience as a senior leader in tech.
➡ Just 21% of senior tech role holders are women.
That’s why, as part of the #TechDiversityMatters campaign, I am committing to mentoring and championing women in tech and allies who want to support women.

Stacc - Women in tech:
Meet Kamilla Storebø Næss
Kamilla didn’t consider tech a possibility when she chose her career path the first time, but changed careers from nurse to developer after talking to people in the industry. She thinks we should research womens motivation in the same way we research the target group of our systems.. A good idea isn’t it?
