After 4 years and 100s of launches at Google, I noticed a pattern that separated successful Group PMs from the rest... The best ones used what I now call the WAVES framework. Here's how it transformed my launches: 𝗪 - 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘄 - Market timing validation - User pain point urgency - Competition analysis snapshot 𝗔 - 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 - Pre-launch stakeholder mapping - Clear success metrics defined - Resource commitment secured 𝗩 - 𝗩𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 - Launch phases predetermined - Go/no-go criteria established - Rollback thresholds set 𝗘 - 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 - Dependencies identified early - Cross-product effects mapped - Platform limitations addressed 𝗦 - 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 - Leading indicators tracked - Lagging metrics defined - Course correction triggers set 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙋𝙍𝘿. Last month, a PM in our accelerator used this to launch a feature that reached 2M users in 3 weeks. The best part? VP reviews became 3x faster because every question was already addressed in the framework. Ready to launch products at MAANG? I love this one, Alex. It reminds me of Google's HEART framework. Well done.
That’s almost the same as PMI planning processes, just in slightly different words. No matter how you look at it, the core and probably the biggest part of managing work is planning.
Love this! thanks for sharing
