In September 2022, Hurricane Ian devastated our beloved Fort Myers Beach, wiping out 100% of businesses and severely damaging 90% of the structures. But from this destruction, we've embarked on a mission that’s incredibly close to my heart: finding innovative ways to rebuild and revitalize our community. 💡 Recently, we've explored a groundbreaking approach to construction that promises to be faster and more cost-effective. Imagine building a high-quality, 1700 square foot house in a factory using the same materials as traditional on-site construction, and then assembling it on location in just 21 days. A couple of weeks ago, we witnessed this concept in action. In just three and a half hours, four modules were lifted by a crane and assembled into a complete house. The result? A tangible sign of hope, resilience, and a brighter future for our community. Doorbell rings. Roofer: "Hello - I've noticed you have some roof damage. We're doing some work on your neighbor's roof down there." (Points to the end of our cul-de-sac where there is no roof damage on the houses and two houses with new roofs in the past 3 months.) Me: "Really, which houses our street are you working on?" Roofer: "Oh, uh, over on Hammock Drive." Me: "There is no Hammock Drive in our neighborhood. Goodbye." Since Monday, we have had 5 roofers ring our bell, prowling for business post Hurricane Milton, using some variation of this opening phrase. If our conversation starts with a lie, I have absolutely no interest in doing business with that company. How can I trust their work if they lie to me in the first sentence? Galveston has unfortunately been no stranger to the devastating impact of hurricanes. Over the years, this community has faced the wrath of powerful storms that have left lasting imprints.  Galveston has witnessed several significant hurricanes throughout its history. The most notorious of these is the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900, a Category 4 storm that resulted in an estimated 6,000 to 12,000 fatalities. This devastating event highlighted the importance of preparedness and sparked advancements in weather forecasting and hurricane protection measures. Other notable hurricanes that impacted Galveston include Hurricane Carla in 1961, Hurricane Ike in 2008, and Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
