We tried a Google search for the "Most famous foreigners in Finland" and we got zero results. I found that shocking, there are so many influential non-Finns in Finland. past & present! Finland consistently says we need more Talent to come to Finland, but often finds it hard to retain the international Talent it already has! On the other hand, new government rules state that talent is now under even more pressure, with harsher restrictions and less time available for finding meaningful work. This topic has been raging for more than two decades since I moved here! I and other volunteers and some paid projects have helped where we can to make easier the building of networks for Talent - the most famous of which was Cafe Lingua where we personally hosted over 55 000 unique guests and saved them over a million euros in discounts and ticket fees - all events were free so we could maximize the impact! Our projects have also invested in building ever-improving community-type websites to help with the most common issues for Talent to integrate and maximize their careers in Finland. Our latest effort is called Talent Hive, not a Think Tank but an Action Tank. We have been consulting with senior people in TE Palvelu, Haaga Helia & Migri to name a few, in order to see how we might help foreign Talent better integrate including for myself! Talent Hive aims to be able to help Talent with these 4 things: 1. Find jobs faster with better strategies. 2. Better networks and networking skills to find better opportunities. 3. Start own companies as a plan B. 4. Make new contacts & friends, so as not to have to hunt for jobs alone! We didn't want to *just* arrange yet another event, there are many of those, & done well! So we thought about how we could work together with government decision-makers, education, and the Talent ourselves to help each other like a product-building process. The unique idea is that if there is a bug in the system of an idea you want to report or contribute, that it would be possible. like an open-source project, where everyone who is a stakeholder can help contribute to a better solution for all stakeholders. We will review those before each Talent Hive event and see how much we can create action tasks from experts & people with influence to improve our futures together. There will also be a launch event this Friday 15th from 3 pm till about 6 pm. One hour-ish of inspiring speakers who will try to do just that and hopefully you will get 1 or 2 nuggets of wisdom you take away with you to help in your career. The rest of the time will be networking. After the event, we will join with the launch of Cafe Lingua 24-7 platform. This has been 2 years in the making and it’s finally happening 🙏 Robusta Technology Group (RTG) just became an approved partner for the CFYE’s 6th and final call in Egypt alongside 6 other partners to impact 66,000+ jobs. This is known as the ‘Challenge Youth Fund for Employment.’ A government-funded initiative incentivising companies to create more sustainable opportunities for youths. With a focus on decent work environments and gender balance. The criteria is strict for good reason and we applied over two calls before getting selected. Through this, we’ve set out an ambitious plan to: - Create 1,150 new jobs - Match 1,600 candidates with their future employers - Improve the working conditions for 250+ existing jobs. We call this "Project Ocean", intended to multiply our impact via Octopus.  It’s an aggressive target set for us, but I believe we are ready. One thing I'm personally excited about is the platform we're going to build. With 12+ years of experience working with Egyptian talents,  We bring great insights on creating engaging experiences for talents and employers. This platform will focus not only on hiring but also on talent development, swift matching, and ensuring visibility for hidden gems in rural and remote areas. This is meaningful change that will be accelerated. Very excited to be working with CFYE and their country management team Ola Farrag and Fatma Younis. Thankful for their trust and confidence in our plans and team ability. With their support on this journey, I believe we will achieve our targets and beyond over the next 2 years. A number of people need to be spotlit as well:  - Sherin Mishriky for her sincere support in coaching us throughout the application process making this possible. - My partner Mahmoud Badr for his diligent work and internal advocacy, explaining why and how this can be beneficial in many ways for RTG. The process of preparing and applying for the call the second time has also taught me a lot personally about getting the best outcomes by involving more internal leaders. I've always believed that the youth of our country will guide us into the future. I'm glad that we’ll play an important part in providing the right platform to start. ✳️ P.S. 🌱 Understanding Transnational Localism 🌱 Transnational localism is about businesses supporting local economies by setting up in smaller towns and rural areas. This approach helps create jobs and boosts economic growth where it’s most needed. By doing this, companies can succeed while also being socially responsible. This is an important discussion for New Zealand and we see this already in some of Northlands smaller towns. It's a fabulous concept and can bring many benefits and rewards like: 🌱 Job Creation: More jobs in small communities reduce the need to move to cities. 🌱 Community Growth: Investing in local schools, training, and infrastructure helps communities thrive. 🌱 Cost Savings: Operating in smaller towns can be cheaper and lead to a dedicated workforce. We could all being more conscious about where we are hiring and hire Locally, with a focus on finding and training talent from the community. Three Lessons I’ve Learned About Job Creation Across Africa 🌍 As our team continues scaling Remoteli and creating sustainable opportunities, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the incredible potential and unique challenges of job creation across Africa. Here are three key lessons I’ve learned: 1. Job Creation Must Be Localised 📍 One size does not fit all. Each African country has its own set of cultural, economic, and infrastructure realities. Successful job creation initiatives are those that understand the local context. What works in one market may not work in another. Tailoring solutions to fit local needs and leveraging indigenous talent is key. 2. Technology Is a Powerful Equaliser 💻 From digital platforms to mobile innovation, technology has the power to bridge gaps and create opportunities at scale. Whether it's remote work, fintech, or e-commerce, tech is enabling young Africans to tap into global markets and build new livelihoods. It’s not just about creating jobs, it’s about creating future proof opportunities. 3. Sustainable Growth Requires Investment in Skills Development 📚 Creating jobs isn't enough, those jobs must be meaningful and sustainable. This starts with a focus on skills development. Young people across the continent are eager to work, but they need the right training and resources to thrive.
