### Zola Budd vs. Mary Decker: A Collision Course Hey everyone, Remember the 1984 LA Olympics? The 3000-meter race was supposed to be epic with South Africa’s Zola Budd, running for Great Britain, going head-to-head with American champ Mary Decker. But it ended up being a total trainwreck. Here’s the lowdown: 1. **The Hype Train**: This race was billed as a clash of titans—Budd’s barefoot style against Decker’s world-class skills. Too bad it didn’t live up to the hype. 2. **Collision Course**: The two runners kept bumping into each other, and it wasn’t long before Decker hit the deck hard after a clash. She had to be carried off, which was a major bummer. 3. **Budd's Struggle**: Budd, who was visibly shaken by the incident, finished a lackluster 7th. Not exactly the performance everyone was expecting. 4. **Blame Game**: The media had a field day, pointing fingers at both runners. Budd took most of the heat, but an investigation later cleared her of blame. The crash wasn’t her fault after all. 5. **Decker’s Take**: Decker still blames her inexperience in pack running for the mishap. Sometimes it’s just one of those things that happen in sports. So there you have it—the race that was supposed to be a showdown ended up being a fiasco. Sometimes, even the most anticipated events can go sideways. #ZolaBudd #MaryDecker #Olympics1984 #RaceCollision #TrackAndField #SportsDrama #BarefootRunner #OlympicFiasco #RunningDrama

Watching the Olympics last night was the biggest lesson in why you should NOT be focussed on your competition... Jakob Ingebrigtsen (Norway) and Josh Kerr (UK) were pitted against each other in the whole run up to the men's 1500m at this year's olympics. There were multiple videos of the two of them acting like it was a race just between them, with each claiming they were going to win. Even the commentators said it would be Ingebrigtsen or Kerr across the finish line first. But when the race actually happened they were so consumed by each other that another runner Cole Hocker (USA), just ran straight past them. The runners, commentators and whole audience was shocked. No one saw it coming. Why did I love this so much? Because it's a prime example of how being distracted by your competition makes you lose focus of what you're truly trying to achieve. If both runners had been running THIER best race, they may have been more focussed on winning. They may have even been more open to all possibilities, and seen the other runner gaining on them. But they didn't. There's a lesson to be learned here. Focus on your own race. Be aware but never consumed by your competition, agree? 👇 #olympics #competition #agencyowner #brandagency #marketingagency #stayfocussed #motivation

Watching American Cole Hocker win the #Olympics 1500 meter race against Jakob Ingebretson and Josh Kerr was thrilling. Hocker covered the moves of those two world-class #runners, kicking home to win. For Ingebretson, it was a disappointing fourth, the worst place an #Olympian can finish. Yet I've long admired many fourth-place #Olympians, two of whom became world-class #writers, Kenny Moore and Don Kardong. Jakob, who recently ran within hundredths of a second close to a decades-old 1500-meter world record, took the race under control and put it all on the line with a fast pace that led to a 3:27 winning time, an Olympic record. I've followed the Norwegian's career since he burst into international fame as a teenager. He's accomplished much, including world titles, since then. Yet as he faded to fourth, I admired his bravery in challenging his rivals. In that respect, he resembled the late Steve Prefontaine in the 1972 Olympics, who finished fourth in the 5000 meters as a young man. Pre died in a car crash in 1975. He believed you had to "respect the race" by giving it all you had. He understood that "leaving it out there" leads to regrets. In the photo shown here I am #running to a sixth-place finish in a high school conference cross-country meet my senior year. I took off at two miles, trying to take the race to my fellow competitors, but I could not hold the pace for the last quarter mile. You can see the pain on my face. I did the best I could that day, with no regrets. My father took this Polaroid photo as I approached the finishing chute. Sure, there was disappointment. We all have these moments in #time when #fear tests our #character, but the beauty of #sport is that even if you fail, you learn something from the #experience. We'll see what Jakob Ingebretson does in the 5000 meters. I predict it will be impressive. #running #run #crosscountry #trackandfield #competition #achievement

## Zola Budd vs. Mary Decker: The 1984 Olympic Clash That Shook LA! 🏃♀️💥 Yo, listen up! The 1984 Summer Olympics in LA had everyone buzzing about the 3000-metre showdown between South Africa’s Zola Budd, running for Great Britain, and the American champ Mary Decker. Expectations were sky-high, but man, did it crash and burn. Here’s the lowdown: ### 💥 Collision Course The hype was off the charts, but the race turned into a train wreck. Budd and Decker kept bumping into each other, and it all went south when they collided, sending Decker crashing to the ground. Talk about a total disaster. Decker had to be carried off, and Budd, running barefoot like a boss, limped home to a lackluster 7th place. ### 🗣️ Media Frenzy The media went bananas, and the blame game kicked off. Budd got hit hard with criticism, but an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) probe later cleared her name, saying the collision wasn’t on her. Still, Decker’s got her own take, blaming her own rookie mistakes in pack running. ### 🤔 Legacy of the Clash This epic face-off didn’t live up to the hype, leaving a bitter taste. Budd’s barefoot gamble didn’t pay off, and Decker’s Olympic dreams took a nosedive. Both runners got slammed, but the real story is how a single race can become a legend for all the wrong reasons. So, there it is—the 1984 Olympics had a major plot twist no one saw coming. #ZolaBudd #MaryDecker #OlympicClash #LA1984 #RaceDrama #BarefootBudd #DeckerDown #CollisionCourse #MediaMadness #IAAFInvestigation #RunningRivalry

European Masters Indoor Championships. - Toruń, Poland 🇵🇱 3 races in one week with 3 huge PBs 3000m Final- 5th with a 12” PB (10:44) 1500m Final - 4th with a 7” PB (5:06) 800m Final - 7th with a 7” PB (2:31) The most amazing experience for my first ever Indoor European championships. The atmosphere in the stadium was unreal, the facilities were world class and to come away with three PBs was pretty epic. Every race had such a different story. I had to front run the 3000m for 11 laps in order to hit my PB and to make the race honest. The 800m was inbetween the 3000m and 1500m which my coach wanted me to do to get some speed in the legs for the 1500m - 800m is not my normal distance so it was hard and the lactic was so intense in the final 200m. No idea how I raced the 1500m after only 1 day of rest but just gave it my all, left absolutely nothing out there and ran to my maximum. I didn’t expect to finish that high up the field as the quality of athletes is fantastic, it really was great to be around such talent. These performances put me top of the UK AG rankings for 1500m and 2nd for 3000m and 800m 🇬🇧 What a way to close the indoor season. As always, powered by plants 🌱 #athletics #veganbusiness

Run speeds in the men’s 100-meter race https://ift.tt/XKg0MfJ Noah Lyles won the men’s 100-meter, but he started as the slowest runner in the final. The New York Times superimposed shaded circles on the track, in combination with composite photos of the runners, to show how it happened. The color of the circles indicate speed rank, as opposed to run speed. Everyone ran extremely fast, so showing actual speed probably wouldn’t do much good. People have suggested that the Olympics should have regular people run, swim, and perform alongside the athletes to highlight the extremes. Seems like a good idea. Anything to set a visual baseline since fast against fast or strong against strong can make the extremes seem less extreme.
