Honestly I'm so fed up. Hasn't the industry and wonderful game makers suffered enough? We need some positive news 😪
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
All this is showing is how quickly AAA is going to die over the course of the next few years. Cutting this much is only a sign that these companies are unstable.
Hey Alexander, not sure if you are aware of Chris Mayne's job spreadsheet? He's been at it for years - at least 4 years if not longer there are almost 300 jobs added in March alone. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eR2oAXOuflr8CZeGoz3JTrsgNj3KuefbdXJOmNtjEVM/htmlview#
When's it gonna end? This is so tough
Honestly I agree full heartedly with what Eva Tucker said. Surely you can't lay off this amount of people and think as someone looking to enter this industry that it's stable or that change doesn't need to happen.

9moIn PlayStation's case I think these layoffs are more because walking away from GaaS and VR (and lowered PS5 sales predictions). Building GaaS and VR takes big talented teams, Sony already had announced they slashed and canceled a ton of projects in those spaces. This is probably part of that refocusing alignment away from those games and more focusing on what they are strong in. Just like you hire up when starting new projects, you have to let people go when you cancel projects. I don't think this is a stability issue as much as trying to be as agile as possible and react to market trends and stay ahead of it. And as sucky as this is... this might be better than sinking $10-100 mil to finish these projects and then just for them to be dead on arrival and be a huge financial (and reputational) loss.
