Many #CHROs I talk to note that partnering with external consultants can improve their organization's #succession planning. At the same time, they also acknowledge that these partnerships have distinct challenges. Over the past few months I interviewed a number of current and former CHROs and executive succession consultants to try and define a set of best practices that work for both sides of these partnerships. I'm excited to finally share the results! Gartner for HR clients can use this research to enhance their consultant partnerships by: 1) clarifying succession planning roles and responsibilities; 2) introducing scenarios and governance principles; 3) building a network to pressure-test preexisting consultant relationships and help vet potential partners; and 4) mapping stakeholder preferences for potential consultant partners.
