From what I have read, CrowdStrike automatically sent out a faulty channel file. This has caused PC's running Windows (mainly Win 10 I think) to get stuck in a boot loop / BSoD (Blue screen of death). There is a workaround to remove the faulty file (but if you have bitlocker you might not be able to get in via safe mode to do the workaround). CrowdStrike have halted all updates until this is resolved, so if you haven't been hit by it already, you should be ok... This is what it looks like when an attacker is selling access to your company on the Dark Web. 👀 🖥 This is an $80M Annual Revenue company with 1,200 endpoints (desktops, laptops, tablets, etc.) that have Kaseya RMM at least, installed for remote monitoring and management. Crowdstrike CEO says a content update is the problem causing all this chaos, not a virus or hack. He says they tested it and then rolled out the update in parts - Microsoft first and they were planning to follow with Linux, etc. Rolling it out to their entire Microsoft client database doesn’t really seem like a reasonable first “part.” This is why the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) *requires* merchants who accept payment cards to complete testing in a non-live environment with a plan in place for a complete rollback even after fully testing the change before implementation of any change or update. If you take payment cards in your business — even if you have that process farmed out to a separate company — you need to be working with a PCI DSS expert to avoid problems like this.
