What has HR done that is really ...new? HR Brew always seems to read my mind with the articles they come out with as I was just thinking about this the other day. It seems like we continue to tackle the same challenges with the same sub-par solutions while other professions are breaking barriers and growing at a rapid rate. Meanwhile, we brand our rinse-and-repeat solutions as 'Best Practices,' and the cycle continues. I constantly wonder why we aren't seeing more in 2024: 📊 Data-Driven Insights: With so much data at our fingertips, why are we still relying on gut feelings to make crucial decisions? 🤲 People-Centric Policies: Many organizations seem to prioritize compliance over compassion. 🤖 Technology Integration: By integrating AI and automation (responsibly), we can streamline processes and free up HR professionals to focus on what matters most. I'm excited to read Lucy Adams' book, HR Disrupted, to discover more ways to revolutionize the HR profession. 💬 Agree? Disagree? These days, when an employee is invited to a meeting with #HR, it can often be the beginning of a very bad day. HR giveth and HR taketh away. It #hires people and it #fires #people. But it really doesn't produce any tangible #value or #profits. But often (not always), the people in HR don't treat the other people like people. 'Those other people' are referred to in impersonal terms like: #headcount, #talent, #pipeline, #staffing, #labor and #worker. Or #HumanResources. But not real, living people with lives and loved ones. It will be interesting to see how those in the HR profession are personally impacted by inanimate, unfeeling things like #AI and #apps in the future. YOU are a real human being. NOT a human resource. Act accordingly. I wrote this article in 2016, and it still seems applicable in 2024. Please read and consider this. And please comment, even if you disagree.

Human Resources (HR) = Human Rats 🐀 ? Some time ago, I was chatting with my friends whom I have known over 2 decades, and their perceptions on HR were honestly kinda brutal. They said stuff like: 1. What does HR even do? 2. HR's on the company’s side—you can't trust them. 3. HR finds ways to save the company money instead of giving raises and better benefits. 4. HR should be called human “rats” because they rat us out. 5. HR is just admin work and I don't really need them 6. Anyone can do HR's work We laughed it off, but it got me thinking about how little people know about HR's work. Here’s what HR really does on the down-low: - Finding new talent - Hiring the right people - Helping new hires fit in - Helping people grow - Keeping employees happy at work - Managing exits Whenever you're at work, HR is there. Maybe not in your face every day, but they’re in the background making it all run smoothly. It’s easy to blame HR for problems at work because they’re part of the system. But remember, every department, not just HR, has goals to meet. We’re all trying to do our best to keep the company going. HR is like an unspoken partner. Just like any other team, they’re in it to help the business succeed—and that means sometimes they're working hard to balance what’s good for everyone. Here comes a light-hearted HR joke provided by AI: "HR: We might seem quiet in meetings, but remember, we have access to all your performance reviews... and your internet history." 😜 #woesofHR #misunderstood #HRpartnering
