Exactly last week I was heading to Matosinhos, Portugal 🇵🇹 where I had the chance to meet and reconnect with partners and friends involved in the ongoing ProLight Project funded by the European Commission, which focuses on developing renewable energy solutions in 6 refurbished demo districts and energy communities in 6 different EU countries 💡 Alongside my colleagues, I witnessed the remarkable work that AdEPorto - Agência de Energia do Porto, EDP and MatosinhosHabit MH - EM are doing in the Carcavelos neighborhood with their energy community, which integrates 278 #dwellings and over 600 #residents, blending residential and commercial spaces. 🏡 Many buildings have already experienced energy efficiency improvements such as the implementation of better hot water supply systems. I am really curious to see how progress will unfold with the upcoming installation of #photovoltaic #panels, which will benefit residents directly. 👏One thing is clear: Matosinhos regional authorities are committed to integrating social, environmental, and economic perspectives into their priorities, as outlined in the Matosinhos Carbon Neutrality 2030 roadmap from Câmara Municipal de Matosinhos. This commitment will for sure continue to bring the community forward, adapting to the current energy landscape while improving their environmental behaviour and awareness. Um grande obrigado Alexandre Varela, Sílvia Ávila de Sousa, Ana Bom Pereira, Ana Isabel Silva and Tiago Lopes for such a great organisation and helping me brush up my Portuguese! E-kerosene: putting the puzzle together Great partner day for Arcadia eFuels last week in #Copenhagen, it was fantastic to see so many people contribute to this 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐞-𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in #Vordinborg. Key takeaways: 💡 Countries need to produce their own sustainable fuel thanks to local green #electricity and #CO2. This will be vital to their 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲. This is precisely what Arcadia’s e-kerosene will contribute to. And from Technip Energies in Rome to Topsoe in Copenhagen and BNP Paribas in Paris, it is truly a European story that Arcadia is writing. 🇪🇺 💡 E-kerosene isn’t just any fuel. 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬. The part we all know is the CO2 impact, That’s because it reduces carbon by 100% compared the fossil fuel thanks to a full electrification of its plant. On top of that, 𝐞-𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 once it’ll be used at scale. That’s because it doesn’t spit out the same #soot and particulate matter as fossil fuel. And the cherry on top is that e-kerosene 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲: an aircraft will have to carry less fuel weight to cover the same distance. More on these two benefits 🔜 💡 But like any good puzzle, 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠. One is around demand: 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, despite their high SAF ambitions. Without these offtake agreements, it’s hard to secure the financial sector’s backing for capital-intensive projects like an e-kerosene plant. One potential solution is to 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝-𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬 to reduce the price of e-kerosene, such as the 𝐒𝐀𝐅 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐔 𝐄𝐓𝐒. Did you know about that? 💶 Here’s a very concrete step towards sustainable aviation that I’m proud to contribute to as 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚 💪

Barcelona has developed an innovative solution for the recovery and use of residual cold in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in its Port. This innovation is the result of collaboration among Veolia, the company specializing in ecological transformation, Enagás and the Barcelona City Council. The system, which is already operational and has the capacity to generate up to 131GWh per year, recovers the cold generated in the LNG regasification process, transforming it into low-carbon energy. The recovered energy is injected at a temperature of -20°C into the largest urban cooling network in southern Europe and benefits infrastructures in the southern area of Barcelona and part of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat such as Fira Barcelona (Barcelona Trade Fair), the offices of Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and industrial centers, as well as hotels, shops and residential homes. #energy #innovation https://lnkd.in/dz-cMyti

Hopefully, this decision by #Catamatca’s Supreme Court will set some kind of precedent for lithium developments in general. If true 👉unacceptable that no study has been done to assess potential cumulative environmental impacts of the six #lithium projects being developed in the Salar del Hombre Muerto. 👉The provincial government and the companies should know better. This is the kind of action/inaction that leads to conflicts down the road. #Argentina #Fenix #Livent #Allkem #Posco Wilson Center Latin America Program
What will be the impact mid- and longterm for the many projects in Argentina?
