My first assignment of my career was to train the employees of the Income Tax Department of Amritsar on the Income Tax Automation software designed by TCS. Here, I had to train and assist senior folks with over 20 years of experience who used manual processes for different aspects related to Income Tax. It was not an easy task to introduce a new method of doing things to senior people who were used to a particular way throughout their careers and were forced to learn the system due to department mandates. As my experience in IT sales grew, I heard the term "Technical Debt" but never heard the term "Process Debt," and my earlier experience always stayed with me. Simply automating old, inefficient processes with new digital technologies is not enough. Companies have to be willing to fundamentally remap and reprioritize how their organizational processes works. And focus on internal communication and employee reskilling. This HBR article is a refreshing approach that shifts focus from Technical Debt to Process Debt, and it will be important as organizations work to integrate Generative AI into their business operations. https://lnkd.in/dYnnvE_s
