Had a good listen to The Take Off Construction Podcast this week. Mick Donaghy was chatting about the question: Degree or Experience – which one really gets you ahead in construction? I left school after Year 10 and spent the last 15+ years building practical experience in the industry. Sure, a degree can open some doors, but in this industry, it’s your attitude that keeps those doors open. You can be the most overqualified for a job but if you’re not hardworking and up for a challenge, a piece of paper can only get you so far. It’s the qualities you can't teach like grit, loyalty, and showing up every day that build strong crews and deliver solid projects. What’s your take? When you’re hiring or building a team, do you go for experience or the formal qualifications?
