Armed with this data, we can build a management framework to ensure the right customs information gets onto the customs declarations so that businesses meet their regulatory compliance obligations while legitimately reducing their customs costs. First comes insight, then focused action and finally, procedural discipline to stay on track.

Is your customs broker doing a good job? How would you know? We have analysed over 600,000 transactions to spot potential errors within the declarations. The results are eye-opening and show a really worrying trend in the industry. Whilst there are some really bad examples, there are also some great brokers out there. With increased visibility, you can quickly understand who is doing a good/bad job and then act accordingly. Partner at law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP, Peter Snaith, gives comments on how to protect yourself contractually. Barbourne Brook's CAT360 software can spot potential errors across years of data within seconds. Are you a broker filing Type 86 entries? Do you work for a broker who files Type 86? What does IRS mean for you now? Customs issued a Guidance document that makes the CUSTOMS BROKER accountable for reasonable care and reasonable control requirements normally assigned to the importer of record. Why? The broker on a Type 86 IS now the IMPORTER OF RECORD. Brokers need to quickly assess their knowledge of a broad range of import issues if they are going to comply with this CBP Guidance. Read the Guidance on EMTC's news page then click on our education tab. Sign up for an assessment of your knowledge as an Importer of Record before you do your next Type 86 entry. We can recommend courses and provide programs to help prepare you and your staff for this new requirement. #cbp #type86entry #emtc #importerofrecord

This is important information that should have been shared right out of the gate. Disappointed that we had to wait almost 4 weeks to be finally told what we already knew, saw for years and predicted would happen again at "go live". Better late than never but need to be diligent to watch for a reoccurance of same whenever there is a new system release. This is only one important disclosure. Look forward to all the others. Will be so important for CBSA and industry to get back to the consultation table so we can roll up our sleeves and get to work in order to address all the others including but not limited to account balance issues. We need September and October payments allocated. Account security nudge amounts are not right. System stability not where it needs to be. Some of the SIMA calculations are off. Help desk is overwhelmed just to name... a few. Imagine if other licensed software we relied on performed the same way. We would be moving on. Trust CBSA will also be extending the 90 day grace period of interest and penalties for all of these cases.
