Medicated but not cured, What's going wrong??🤔😢 ------------------------------------------------------ Most times we wonder why the drugs we take don't work per the given time or at times don't work at all. You might have experienced taking a pain relief drug and the pain gets more worse instead of actually relieving the pain. It is actually due to an action, it is called the Nutrient-Drug interaction. This interaction allows the proper function of drugs in the gastrointestinal tract, but at times hinders it. On a deeper level, This Nutrient-Drug interaction is responsible for the enhancement or inhibition of drug absorption, it affects drug metabolism and clearance, Interacts with drug mechanisms of action and Influence drug side effects. You should by now see the reason why we don't get the desired results when we take certain medications. A crucial example I'll give is Calcium supplements and Antibiotics (e.g., Tetracycline) Calcium can reduce antibiotic absorption: Most women are advised to take Calcium supplements or food sources rich in calcium to help aid bone developments, most especially the Pregnant ones. So if a woman take Antibiotics this time around, it'll be hindered due to the high levels of calcium in the body. The way out is simple, When buying medications, ensure to inform the Pharmacist that you're on so and so medication. Or best get a Dietician as your 24-hour dietary recall will help with the proper information needed to oversee the overall well-being of the patient. This shows how greatly our diet controls our overall well-being. However ensure to consult with healthcare professionals to manage nutrient-drug interactions and ensure safe and effective treatment outcomes.
