🚀 Work Hard, But Work Smart! 🕒 At a recent event in Bengaluru, Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor shared his thoughts on work culture, recalling his time at OYO where he would arrive at the office at 8 AM, only to find it empty until much later. Many employees would stay until 3 AM, something Kapoor strongly opposed. He emphasized that long hours don’t equate to productivity and encouraged a balanced approach: “Go home, spend time with your family, girlfriend, dog… What will you achieve by working that late?” A great reminder that working smarter, not harder, and prioritizing work-life balance are key to sustainable success. 💡 #WorkLifeBalance #Productivity #Leadership #WorkSmart #CareerGrowth #Swiggy https://lnkd.in/g4vZxcHQ

At a recent TechSparks event, Rohit Kapoor, the CEO of Swiggy Food & Marketplace, shared a powerful message about the adverse effects of glorifying hustle culture. As someone with an impressive career journey—from McKinsey to Max India, OYO, and now Swiggy—Rohit knows firsthand the demands of leadership roles. In his candid conversation with Shradha Sharma, he pointed out a critical truth many of us overlook: "Don't work till 3 a.m.! Ghar jao, biwi hai, dog hai, kuch toh karo unke sath." 🐕👨👩👧 While late nights and long hours are sometimes unavoidable, making this a habit can harm your health, well-being, and personal relationships. Rohit emphasizes that it’s okay to work hard but not at the cost of your personal life. Professionals who work until 3 a.m. often don’t mention they start their next day much later, and this unsustainable pattern is unhealthy. His advice? Don’t sacrifice your life for the grind. Balance is key. Spend time with your loved ones, because success isn’t just about career achievements—it's about happiness and fulfillment in all areas of life. Rohit’s words have struck a chord with many, and the viral video of his talk is proof that this message is one we all need to hear. Let’s stop glorifying endless hustle and start appreciating the value of a balanced life. 💡 #HustleCulture #WorkLifeBalance #Leadership #Wellbeing #Career #TechSparks

🔹 A Refreshing Perspective on Leadership & Work Culture 🔹 I recently came across a statement by Rohit Kapoor at #TechSparks2024, CEO of Swiggy, where he unapologetically called out the glorification of “hustle culture"(normalising/appreciated working late hours after shift is over, made work of week offs or on leaves). Late-night grind till 3 AM? He says, “It's bullsh*t.” And honestly, this kind of leadership feels like a breath of fresh air. 🌱 Every company needs a CEO like this. Every employee deserves a leader who understands the importance of balance and boundaries. Swiggy's work culture clearly reflects this mindset — and, honestly, it's a culture I would love to be part of. At the end of the day, it’s about delivering what matters most, without unnecessary extremes. With Swiggy’s upcoming IPO on the horizon, I’m more convinced than ever that this forward-thinking approach to leadership is what sets them apart. In an era where some leaders are advocating for 70-hour work weeks, it's refreshing to see CEOs like Rohit Kapoor leading with empathy and pragmatism. New-age leaders like him understand that work-life boundaries are essential for long-term success. What do you all think about this? 💡 Swiggy’s IPO, Rohit Kapoor's take on hustle culture — are we witnessing a new wave of leadership in corporate India? #Leadership #WorkCulture #Swiggy #IPO #BalanceNotBurnout #CareerGoals #NewAgeLeadership

A thought-provoking statement from Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy, during a candid interview with Shradha Sharma at #TechSparks, criticising, the modern "hustle culture," raising concerns about its adverse effects on health and personal well-being. This got me thinking about the #hustle_culture that so many of us, especially those from humble backgrounds, are often drawn into. We aren't hustling to impress anyone or to compete - but to change the narrative for our families, to build a better future, and to fight battles our parents couldn’t win. As #Warren_Buffett once said: 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲. Success in the real world doesn’t come easy - it takes #hardwork, #perseverance, and #sacrifice. I learned this firsthand from Shradha Sharma at #HSX Headstart Network Foundation in 2022, where she shared her journey of building YourStory Media from scratch. After 10 years at McKinsey and 14 years in top roles at Max India, Max Healthcare, OYO, and now Swiggy, no one reaches the top by sticking to a 9-to-5 routine. While #leaders may talk about work-life balance, building something great requires #time, #effort, and #focus. Let’s be real: while work-life balance is important, especially when it comes to mental health and well-being, we also need to acknowledge the hustle that’s required in the early stages of building something meaningful. When people like Mr Narayan Murthy, Elon Musk, Bhavish Aggarwal talk about working 18-hour days, they aren't just pushing us to overwork - they’re highlighting the kind of effort it takes to reach significant goals. Don’t take advice from someone who’s already made it big and is now preaching a “#no_hustle” lifestyle. Rest & Relax can come after you’ve succeeded. Right now, while we’re young and full of energy, let’s keep pushing toward something bigger. Develop a strong workaholic ethic, start early, finish late hours and work a little harder. There will always be people talking about “#balance” and “#take_it_easy,” but that comes after you’ve made it, not before. Before success, you're in a race with thousands of others. And to win, you have to work harder and smarter than the competition. In the wake of the recent tragedies at EY India and IIM Ahmedabad (that instigated discussion and debate on #pressure), I wanted to share three thought-provoking posts that might inspire and offer valuable perspectives. Swiggy's CEO Rohit Kapoor started a much needed conversation - "Wo jo 3 baje raat ko baithte hai na wo ye nahi batate ki wo ek baje raat ko office aate hai." Kapoor’s candid conversation with Shradha Sharma at TechSparks resonated deeply with me, and I believe his insights are crucial for everyone, especially in the fast-paced world of full-stack marketing. Kapoor, with his impressive career spanning roles at McKinsey & Company, Max India Limited, Max Healthcare, OYO, and now Swiggy, has seen it all. He pointed out that while some days demand late hours, this should not become the norm. His journey from management consultant to CEO highlights the importance of balance—a lesson I echo in my professional philosophy. Reflecting on his words, “Don’t work till 3 a.m.! Ghar jao, biwi hai, dog hai, kuch toh karo unke sath,” Kapoor sheds light on a truth often overlooked: working late nights often means starting late the next day. The glorification of such a lifestyle can be detrimental to health and personal relationships. In our industry, the temptation to embrace the hustle is immense. We often find ourselves pushing boundaries to deliver outstanding results for our clients. However, Kapoor’s message is a timely reminder that relentless hustle, at the cost of our well-being and personal lives, is counterproductive. He emphasized, “Hard work is needed. I think we need to work d**n hard,” but also warned against the insanity of sacrificing personal life for work. This resonates with me as I strive to lead my full-stack marketing company with a balanced approach. Our work is demanding, but it's crucial to carve out time for family and self-care. 👨💼 My Perspective Kapoor’s viewpoint has struck a chord with many, and the viral video of his speech is a testament to its impact. As leaders, it’s our responsibility to foster a culture that values both hard work and personal well-being. Our work is demanding, but it's crucial to carve out time for family and self-care. 📢 Let’s Discuss How do you balance work and personal life? 🏖️ What are your thoughts on the hustle culture? 💭 Let’s continue this conversation and support each other in creating healthier work environments. #Leadership #HustleCulture #WorkLifeBalance #PersonalWellbeing #MarketingLeadership #ProfessionalGrowth

Leaders need to be vocal about this, you can perform exceptionally well working effectively every day 9 hrs. Discipline around everything in life is the key. I have been personally fortunate to have support of leaders who personify this, except few small stints. I have seen lot of folks who don’t have a personal life and work is just an escape and only means of self worth. Let’s not normalise that. Few crores more by the time you retire can’t be a trade off for time with parents , spouse , kids, close friends and your own health. #worklifebalance

Just a Thought on Akriti Chopra’s Journey at Zomato! After 13 years of being part of Zomato's success, Akriti Chopra is stepping down to explore new opportunities. Reading about her journey reminds me of the importance of long-term commitment while staying open to change. Staying with one company offers stability, trust, and growth but can also limit innovation and adaptability. For designers and marketers, it's essential to continuously upskill and evolve within the company while staying open to unlearning and adapting to new trends. Having been with Ninety One Cycles for over 9 years, I can say that adapting is the toughest challenge. It's easier said than done!
