The 6 most common are: - design - implementation - testing - security - deployment - versioning or retirement New stages, like productization & monetization are becoming more common, as well. (we'll save those for their own post, though) Full lifecycle API management is the ability to observe an API through all these stages to: - deliver reliable, quality APIs with consistency - ensure access to your APIs are secure & well-documented - provide a better developer experience Often, this process is supported by a set of tools – referred to as a full lifecycle API management solution or platform. These solutions / platforms include tools like: - an API designer / mock-up builder - API testing tools - an API gateway - API security & advanced authentication - a developer portal - documentation, debugging & version control These solutions allow developers to manage everything in one place, reducing complexity & toil. (some organizations may opt to use different, specialized, tools to do this.
