SEMICON WEST, one of the largest and most influential global semiconductor industry events, has always been held in San Francisco. Starting from 2025, it will be held biennially in Phoenix, Arizona. What does this mean? This change carries significant implications. It can be interpreted from the following perspectives: 1. Increasing importance of Arizona: It demonstrates that Arizona, especially the Phoenix area, is emerging as a new hub for the U.S. semiconductor industry. This is a result of investments from TSMC, Intel, and now Amkor Technology. 2. Result of policy support: This can be seen as evidence that the U.S. government's proactive semiconductor industry fostering policy, through the CHIPS and Science Act, is yielding tangible results. 3. Changes in the industrial ecosystem: As semiconductor manufacturing-related companies concentrate in Arizona, it indicates the formation of an industrial ecosystem. 4. Shift in global semiconductor landscape: It suggests that the center of the semiconductor industry, traditionally focused on Silicon Valley, is shifting. The relocation of SEMICON WEST, widely regarded as one of the largest semiconductor trade shows globally, underscores the significance of this shift. 5. Implications for Korean companies: Korean semiconductor companies should take note of these changes and may need to consider investment or collaboration opportunities in the Arizona region. These changes, including the relocation of SEMICON WEST, can be viewed as part of the United States' efforts to strengthen its leadership in the semiconductor industry. The fact that such a premier industry event is partially moving to Arizona serves as a powerful indicator that the global semiconductor industry landscape is evolving, with Arizona playing an increasingly central role.
