Earlier last week, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India hosted a pivotal roundtable discussion on the intentional integration of nutrition into climate-resilient agriculture (CRA). It was an honor to represent WRI India in this insightful consultation. The challenges in this field are immense, yet the opportunities to shift towards #resilience and #sustainability are equally significant. CRA emphasizes the integration of adaptation, mitigation, and best practices to increase a system’s ability to resist damage and recover swiftly from climate-related disturbances. At its core, CRA is about fostering sustainable solutions through the judicious management of natural resources—land, water, soil, and genetic resources—to create agricultural systems that can truly "bounce back." At WRI India we are committed to strengthening the intersection of nutrition and climate resilience in agriculture, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable future for India. Looking forward to continued collaboration and innovative solutions in this vital area! 💡🌏 #ClimateResilience #SustainableAgriculture #CollaborationForImpact

Observed annually on 26th November, National Milk Day commemorates the birth anniversary of "Milkman of India" Dr. Verghese Kurien, celebrated as the "Father of the White Revolution" in India. Born on 26th November 1921, in Kozhikode, Kerala, Dr. Kurien was instrumental in transforming India from a milk-deficient nation to the world's largest producer of milk. This day underscores the transformative impact of India’s dairy sector, a key contributor to nutritional security, rural empowerment, and economic growth. Globally, India is 1st in Milk production with 230.58 million ton per annum and it is 25% of world production of milk followed by USA. In September 2024, Govt. of India launched the White Revolution 2.0 along with ‘Margdarshika’ for the formation and strengthening of 2 lakh new MPACS, Dairy and Fishery Cooperatives, and SoP on 'Cooperation among Cooperatives.' The objective of White Revolution 2.0 is to milk procurement of dairy cooperatives by 50% (from the present 660 lakh litres per day to 1,000 lakh litres) over the next five years by providing market access to dairy farmers in uncovered areas and increasing the share of dairy cooperatives in the organised sector. It would also provide support for National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) 2.0, a new central sector scheme under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MFAHD), Govt. of India to assist 1,000 Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies (MPACSs) at the rate of Rs 40,000 per MPACS. 🌾 Today, as we honor the legacy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, let's reflect on his visionary thoughts that continue to resonate in our agricultural landscape. Dr. Ambedkar recognized the vital role of agriculture in India's development. He astutely argued that the productivity of agriculture hinges not solely on the labor and capital of individual farmers but significantly on the scale of operations. Amidst challenges like the British ryotwari system, where landlords bore burdensome rent responsibilities or faced eviction, Dr. Ambedkar emphasized the need for a paradigm shift towards cooperative farming. He advocated for the adoption of cooperative farming, foreseeing its potential to address the inefficiencies inherent in small-scale farming. Dr. Ambedkar's insights underscored the transformative impact of cooperative models in boosting agricultural output and fostering rural development. On this occasion, let's reaffirm our commitment to Dr. Ambedkar's vision by promoting sustainable agricultural practices and embracing cooperative farming initiatives. Together, we can empower our rural communities and cultivate a prosperous future for Indian agriculture. #BabasahebAmbedkar #Agriculture #RuralDevelopment #CooperativeFarming
