Absolutely energizing conversation with Christopher Nguyen - he's doing so much to help #designers turn into #entrepreneurs, and unlock true economic freedom. A few nuggets that stuck with me from our convo: - Early stage designers are focused on getting a job. Later stage designers realize they need to go independent. - Entrepreneurs think about all of their online activity as part of a single funnel. How do you get customers from one entrypoint into more and more of what you have to offer? - People follow you for your journey. They want to learn how you got there, so they can get there themselves. Can you offer them something that will help them get to where you are now?

For Entrepreneurs, Conversations Are All Business: A Reflection In his article, “For Entrepreneurs, Conversations Are All Business,” Martin Zwilling highlights how essential meaningful conversations are for success in entrepreneurship. He draws from Shawn Kent Hayashi's work, presenting 12 types of conversations that can drive innovation and growth. Among these, two frameworks resonate with me: the Conversation for Creating New Possibilities and the Conversation for Action. Both emphasize the importance of asking the right questions and actively listening—skills that are crucial for understanding market needs. Reflecting on my own experiences, I recall a workshop where mentors encouraged us to share ideas in small groups. These discussions revealed new possibilities and clarified our paths forward. Similarly, during a UX class, one insightful conversation with a friend changed the course of my product prototype, helping me identify an unmet need and pivot my approach. Conversations can unlock new ideas and insights. Have you ever had a discussion that changed your perspective or inspired a new direction in your work? I’d love to hear your stories! I've been pondering why founders, especially first-time founders, often avoid speaking with their customers. Recently, I’ve encountered some incredibly smart entrepreneurs with significant growth potential. However, when I asked them how they make decisions and gather feedback from their customers, many admitted that they don’t. I suspect this avoidance might stem from a fear of what they might hear. If the feedback aligns with their assumptions, it could feel like the effort wasn’t worth it. On the other hand, if customers contradict their views, they’d have to confront the uncomfortable truth that their business might not be meeting customer needs—and could potentially fail as a result. But this approach feels more like gambling than running a business. In my opinion, true entrepreneurship isn’t about taking blind risks; it’s about making informed decisions based on real customer insights. I encourage every entrepreneur to have real discussions with their potential or actual customers on a daily basis. MakeSheHappen.com #makeshehappen #founders #customerfeedback

Entrepreneurial Stories: The mindset must change and be set in a clear and concise manner. If businesses say things are slow or not great, that’s fine, but it doesn’t mean you must accept long-term losses that will bring you to your knees. You need to find the best strategies and methods to turn the business back into a profit, which will allow you to reach out to your resources for innovation. Be sure to keep your finger on the pulse during tough times for entrepreneurs, and make wise, bold, and strategic moves. This approach will help you avoid ending up in the same difficult position and will enable you to spread your wings further. Good luck, and stay genius!

Did you know that this week is National Small Business Week? At least half of the people and organizations that I work with are in the entrepreneur space or small business space. That's because that they recognize that reinvention isn't just a strategy to contemplate, it's a strategy to operate. Day in and day out. And small businesses aren't just storefronts and retail. They are also: Contractors Architects Designers Technologists Consultants Healthcare advocates Social service agencies Gig workers Solo entrepreneurs So, as you decide where to shop, where to work, who to hire, and what products and services you need, consider the small business sector. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. #smallbusinessweek #sba #entrepreneurship #dreambig #creativityisastrategy
