India witnessed a staggering ₹1,750 crore loss to cyber fraud in the first four months of 2024, highlighting the growing threat of online crime. This alarming figure underlines the urgent need for both individuals and institutions to take action. According to Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), on an average 7,000 cybercrime complaints were registered per day in May 2024, a jump of 113.7% between 2021-2023 and 60.9% from 2022-2023, and 85% of them were financial online frauds. 📈 While institutions bear the responsibility of implementing strong security measures to prevent fraudulent transactions, individuals also play a crucial role in safeguarding their personal data. It is essential for individuals to be aware of the risks associated with sharing sensitive information online and take steps to protect themselves. This includes being cautious with unfamiliar links, using secure networks, and regularly updating their security settings. By being mindful of their online activities, individuals can reduce the likelihood of falling victim to cyber fraud and contribute to overall financial security.
